Impressive #'s for an Omni

never been a big fan of them, or FWD period, it's just not my thing

I did have a Omni FC body once, but ditched it for a 23 T Altered

That is still mild for the 2.4 L. They have been taken to the 700 HP range with just head and induction work.

my buddy had one he reworked...that thing gave people fits.

That omni is a single cam 8 valve not a DOHC SRT4 motor. So this one is considered one of the most powerful 8 valve ones around. Especially for one that is street driven.

Modified 2.5 would fit it better would it not. Had to look at it on the computer 28" monitor. Needed a big picture instead of the usual tablet size. Do not know of any 2.4 L's with 8 valves.

Because it's a 2.5l in the omni not a 2.4.

This is the same motor that came in alot of the Daytonas lebarons and minivans in the early 90s with the turbo motor.

It's likely a 2.2l. Many had Steel cranks, and the TurboII motor was perhaps the best one of all the Turbo motors, Steel Crank, Forged Pistons, heavy Rods, issue was some cracking in the heads between the valves, and sometimes the lower end let go, I know, I had several of them back in the day!

The car came with a 2.2, but this one now has a 2.5 with an A555 manual transmission. Plus has full interior and is street driven. Like 100 miles driving to work street driven.

It's in the March 2016 Hot Rod magazine.

You can make a very streetable low 11 second car out of one of those fairly easily.

Drove a new GLHS and it surprised me. Took off fairly easy but ran it up near red line and power shifted 2nd gear and had a hard time keeping it in one lane. It also surprised the guy in the late model Camaro in the other lane that just got his butt handed to him. Never have been a FWD fan either and yeah, it's crazy having an econo box go like that lol

Two of my friends have had several 2.2 and 2.5 turbo cars including a GLHS.

I had an 86 CS Daytona.

They will damn sure change lanes on you if you're not careful and attentive.

My son and I had a project, for him, '87 Shelby Charger, 2.2 turbo. Amazing how many upgrades were on that model compared to the base models. Close ratio steering, close ratio gear box. Same length axle shafts. (Takes care of the steering torque) They use a carrier bearing on the long side to make the axles the same length.
Car was pretty quick for a 2.2. First thing I bought for it was a boost guage because they were known for sticking waste gates blowing the head gasket or worse. Mounted it eye level on the windshield post!
They have quite a following being so many parts are interchangeable...
The car looked just like this one,
