Check out this transmission jack I just bought

Okay there...Its not as if I am opening a transmission shop, but...

I had some money left over from a side job so I thought it might be nice to do any future trans R&R work standing up instead of on my back. Earlier this year I installed a 2 post lift. What a great time saver this thing is! It is amazing how much easier it is to do stuff while standing instead of rolling in and out from under the car.
My 75 Power Wagon is a 4 speed model and I am converting it to a 727. The 203 transfer cases they have are dang near solid iron and weigh almost as much as my fat ex wife. The trans jack will really help. The jack is due here in about a week.
This is one of those tools that you hope that you don't need BUT it will surely make trans swaps faster and easier.

I've got the Sunex variety and use it a lot more than I thought I ever would. I think if a guy has a hoist, this is almost a must have tool.

Totally agree. A lift + a transmission jack = awesome ability to work on stuff. Only recently did I actually use it for a transmission. I have used it to install gas tanks, hold suspension or exhaust pieces in place, etc. Great tool!

That's a sweet trans jack! Mines only a single stage and takes a bit more effort to use but will get the job done. I`d rather have a two stage though.....

I like it because I just hook an air hose to it, I have used it so so many times it works great...

I would not be able to work on anything without the lifts, I switched to the asymetric style, I always used the forward and rotary lifts, my next one is going to be the shockwave, http://www.rotarylift.com/SPOA10-SW/ a buddy of mine has 4 of them in his shop, the are awesome...

BUT anyway congrats on the new toy, I mean tool...

I think with the lift the oil drain, a few stiff legs, good drop light, good hose reel, tranny jack, are a must. Especially if you are going to restore cars, i remember not that long ago, you couldnt buy a tranny jack for $700 lol, now you can get one for $150. The old coats is a nice touch too, I have a really good friend with a Hunter touchless and digital HS balancer, so I take my tires over there to get mounted and balanced, I clean his 3 boilers for free so he does as many tires as I bring him, lol..

Restoring cars over the years I have come up with a decent idea of what is needed, all of which now you can buy for pretty short money.
Engine stand (2 ton folder)
Tranny jack
lift
Engine hoist
parts washer
sand blaster
a couple blast cabinets
small parts paint booth (homemade)
compressor with air dryer, say 17cfm
porta power
welder, plasma cutter, spot welder
then of course all the hand tools and power hands..

You never have enough, then when you get close you need a larger garage..

The ceiling in the room is vaulted to approx 13". I built the shop with 10" ceilings except for the room that I planned for the car lift. No skylights, just twin 4" florescent units, two on each side of center.

I don't use the tire machine on my aluminum wheels, just the steelies.

The trans jack is something I bought for a trans swap I'll be doing on my 75 Power Wagon. It is a 4 spped that I'm converting to a 727.

They sell the head/shelf end to this jack separately, under the same product name. It plugs into a floor jack, the type you can remove the lift pad from. Several on line companies sell it. I searched the net and found it for under forty bucks. My Auto Zone floor jack, died after only twenty months, of home garage service. I really need one these days. I used to R&R transmissions off a floor jack, with help. That was when I was young, strong and foolish.

I like the looks of this one but it shows out of stock at amazon and says don't know when or if it will restock.

You can't have the transmission assembly out line with the jack assembly. In other words, front of trans in line with the handle or the fixed wheels. Never work off the side of the jack.

All this time and I have still not used it!
I bought it to do a trans swap in a 75 Power wagon 4wd. Not long after I got the trans jack, I was going through some disagreements with a friend and it was looking like I might have to sell the truck. I didn't see the sense in doing all that work. We came to an understanding but then I got a job that had a long commute!
Life sure gets in the way of your plans, right?
