I am not in any way familiar with the console in a charger, so i cant answer your question. What you need is the dimension from the bottom of the gate plate on the shifter, to the mount surface, verses the height of your console.
I have seen that shifter used in factory consoles, but i dont remember whose.
The shifter itself is bulletproof, just not driver mistake proof. I used one in my bracket car and occasionally pulled from first to third (rmvb). So, i changed to a B&M ratchet, and changed the top plate on the cheetah to use with a powerglide/brake. Bulletproof, and idiot proof in that application.
The black plastic housing was an option, basically to enclose and dress up the shifter, but also the could include a bunch of quality switches. That is the one i used, so all switches were near to hand.
