Chemtrail question for all the aviation guys here

Let’s see how long it takes to get this thing into the political forum.

So I was hanging out with the guy this weekend who is a big believer in government conspiracy regarding chemtrails and their uses in global population control, Monsanto engineered climate change, etc.

So, to all our FBBO pilots, aviation mechanics and military aviation guys... first question I have about all that is how come none of you guys are ever quoted in saying, “yeah I repair the squirter system” or “I maintain them nozzles and tanks”, or “it’s all true, seen it with my own eyes”?
 
Believe someone brought this up and about everyone thought it to be ridicules. Maybe Blaidrunner will jump in.
How would jet stream differentiate from chemtrail to the casual observer?
 
Real simple actually...The vapor trails are caused by water that is a result of the combustion of the fuel. Just like a finely tuned MOPAR motor, the end product is H2O. These nut jobs preaching the conspiracy BS haven't a clue such as your acquaintance has suggested. Try telling him to do more study on the subject of "Clean Burn" that is a result of a properly tuned and running engine. And finally this...At the altitude that most jet airplanes cruise at is between 30 - 40 thousand feet altitude. It is minus 40 degrees up there and that also causes the exhaust trails. I flew for the AF for 27.5 years with over 10,000 flying hours experience. And I am also a licensed FAA Flight Dispatcher. I think I know a little bit more than most do about flying and these nut jobs that spew this garbage remind me of the Chicken Little crap that permeates all walks of society. Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in conspiracies and I don't trust the government but there are way better conspiracies like Roswell or the Kennedy assassinatipn or FBI spying on a Presidential Candidate.

Airplanes fly at different altitudes. The higher the altitude, the colder the air. With that said, the longer contrails are from higher altitude flying aircraft. It's like why do you see you breath better the colder it gets, along with the big exhaust vapor cloud on a cold day? Same principle.
I always enjoyed sitting in the back and watchin the contrails on long flights, like this!

Its a simple non answer. If a conspiracy theory involves allot of people that's all it is, people can't keep their mouths shut for a number of reasons

1. Being Aircrew on the EC-135s and the EC-18Bs (Advanced Range Instrumentation Aircraft, ARIA) I CAN tell you "WE" never seeded...except for dumping fuel on a Take-off, Engines ablaze and we were too heavy to land...
2. After retirement, 20 years 1 month and 3 days and working Flight Test at Edwards aFB...for 19 years...
I never saw "seeding"

BUT: Yes, it is practiced, NOT by the military, I think California (where I'm currently living) does "SEED"

I lived in Dayton Ohio (Wright-Patterson AFB) for 12 years and there was ALWAYS Con Trails!

Is that seeding?

I have 28 years USAF experience and 23 years as a licensed pilot. I always believed that these stories were actually just ordinary contrails, until I witnessed one flight myself. I don’t know the altitude (it was very high up), but as I noticed this super large set of contrails, this large jet aircraft switched to “ordinary” size contrails and then immediately executed a left 180 turn. It continued back in the direction from which it came and it had ordinary sized contrails all the way until it was out of sight. This was over my home in NJ.

The biggest clue that this was some sort of spraying was the immediate 180 turn it made when finished. I don’t have a clue as to what was going on, but when my county does mosquito spraying operations, they’re from a low flying helicopter- just over the treetops. The spraying that I witnessed was way too far up (I’d estimate close to 20K feet) to be for mosquitoes or anything else that I am familiar with. Maybe cloud seeding, though there were no visible clouds in the sky and we didn’t need rain at that timeframe.

Call me crazy, but I am a forensic engineer and I know how to evaluate what I witness. This was unexplainable as far as I was knowledgeable about. However this type of operation is not cheap and someone was doing it for a presumably good (unknown) reason.

You may have been watchin a A/R that either ended or the receiver had a problem venting fuel or something else and had to RTB? I know during aerial refueling that there is some spray but bad venting will look like a contrail. It's pretty badass when Google Earth can find this! Best dang job there is in the whole danged A.F.!

My turn to spew....I understand moisture and combustion and such from engines at various altitudes, but. After reading about this on the paranoid press, I got out my binoculars for closer inspection and noted most times it's from the engines; however. When I am viewing a jet whose engines are attached to the rear fuselage, (not on the wings) and I can plainly see trails from midway on the wings and near the wing tips, what explains that! Also, on those aircraft, nothing from the engines while this was going on?!?!? (Twighlight Zone music please.) :realcrazy:
I forgot to mention that a little while later I felt strangely compelled to send all of my money and possessions to the government!

Someone other than me can explain the visible "trails" that you are mentioning.
I have seen this many times looking out the window of a regular commercial flight on landing when they put the "air brakes" on (for lack of a proper term).

My thinking is they are not treating the runway with some clandestine substance.:)

I also have seen this as being common at airshows when high-performance aircraft tend to push the air they are flying in hard.
The thought of them treating the audience at the show to some chemical is comical.:p

When I look up and see the sky full of "trails" My thought is the atmosphere must be rather still today.
