Hey all, I need to replace the clutch in my 63 Polara. It has a 440 from a 1969 Polara Police Car with a mild cam, headers, single plane intake, Holley 850 double pumper, MSD Ignition, and an as-of-yet unidentified (18 or 23 spline) 4 speed with a date code of June 21 1969. It has 2.76 rear gears for now. It is a daily driven car that will see occasional track use. Any recommendations on a clutch to use? This is my first 4 speed car so this is all new territory for me! Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

I guess I'm just getting old, but I don't use aftermarket racing clutches in street cars anymore. The ones I have used seem to have a lot of pedal pressure and are grabby and/or chatter. I put a regular old NAPA clutch kit in one of my cars awhile back and it's been great. Real smooth and easy. JMHO.

I have a ram.....yes, stiff like my.......upper lip when I was 16.
but,
you get used to it...
I sometimes like to get a little crazy with the car and need a bit more.
if my '63 was my everyday driver I too would do a napa rebuild.

I bought the McLeod street pro kit from Summit for my 65, my napa store here wanted about the same money for their clutch. I asked the same question on a thread and most responded in favor of the Mcleod street pro. just my $.02

I've always had luck with Centerforce clutches. If you have a three finger clutch in there now and switch to a diaghram pressure plate, remember to remove the over-center spring under the dash.

It is funny you mention the "three finger clutch" as the guy who sold me the car told me that included with the car is a brand new "three finger clutch." Never having a 4 speed before I had never heard of this, and sure enough in the trunk is a brand new purple anodized clutch. The reason why I am asking for recommendations is I can't take it as gospel that this is even the correct clutch for this transmission as the guy I bought the car from was apparently a complete moron. What is the "three finger clutch" vs a diaphram pressure plate? Let's say I were to try to install this clutch and it does work and the old clutch was the diaphram pressure plate I assume I would have to find and add an over center spring? Thanks for all of your help!!!
