I believe thats the clutch pedal spring to make it easier to depress clutch pedal. I took mine off because it can cause clutch pedal to stick to floor at high RPM's.

I took mine off because it can cause clutch pedal to stick to floor at high RPM's.

It stays on if using an original style Borg and Beck clutch. It must be removed if using a diaphram style clutch.
