I get along well with the guys at our local parts store. It's right next door to McDonald's so I bring them burgers and cokes sometimes. I bought a huge bundle of microfiber towels. Regular $45 on sale for $35. Gave them all cheeseburgers. Weird that my towels rang up at $5.15 including tax.

If I get good friendly service somewhere, I always return with beer. It more than pays for itself in the long run.

When I was a little kid my Dad would buy auto parts from a local store around 1958? Got to know "Sam" really good.
Great friend of the Family. When I started to work on cars I only went to see Sam or his Son for my parts. When I
started racing with a buddy of mine for two seasons back in 1978 something weird happened. One night around 7pm,
my friend said, "let's go get some plugs and oil". He drove. We pulled up in front of Sam's place. Kool! He went in and
asked for "AJ". AJ came out of the back and said hi to us and asked what we needed. He was a good friend of my Racing
Buddy. My friend told him, oil, plugs, and, oh yeah, plug wires. AJ rang him up and gave him a bag with the plugs in it.
I think he paid for whatever! We walked out and I said "what about the wires and the oil"? He said that AJ was putting them
out back and we can pick it up in about ten minutes. We picked up our stuff and went home! My buddy said he gave AJ
a 20 and we got all the stuff for free. For the cost of a bribe I guess!
Next day in the morning I went and visited Sam and his Son who worked days. I told him what was going on and
they both looked at each other and told me that someone was hitting them for about three-thousand dollars worth of stuff
every month! They had no idea who it was. Until now. Sam and his son were really nice about the whole thing. They watched
the back of the store and caught him red-handed. Fired him on the spot! Didn't call the cops. Oh yeah, he lived right behind
the store and Sam knew his Dad really well. Told his Dad what happened. What a disgrace!

I despise a thief! In the late 70's, I worked at an Auto Parts store that also had a jobber warehouse for other stores and shops. I was working the jobber counter for a couple years, and got to be friends with a local engine shop. Started hanging out and working on race car stuff with them at nights. I had a co-worker that got them to build a hot BB Ford for his Mercury, and a lot of expensive $$ parts started showing up at their shop. The guy was one of those smart ***, know it all types. I knew he didn't make the money to afford what he was sending over there. Also, about the same time, another buddy that came in a lot had the mag wheels and tire stolen from his car one night. About 3 days later, my coworker was late for work, said he had a flat tire. Later, when in the parking lot, I noticed his 4 door beater had one of the "missing" wheels put on where the flat had been. I talked with my buddy with the wheels stolen, and put "2+2" together. I also did a little detective work with the machine shop guys and my store manager. We discovered this guy had been stealing the parts for his engine as well. We notified the local LEO, and did a mini stakeout. I got the pleasure of watching the scumbag being cuffed and stuffed into a cop car. Never saw him again....

Back in the 80's whitlock auto parts stores were big here in Wisc. I would here stories from some of my older friends that worked at those stores. There was as always one guy ripping the place off. I guess it had a performance dept and the biggest knobs would be in that dept. Their friend would buy a set of headers and throw a few carbs in the box and away they'd go. Then return the next day to return the headers. Then do it all over again the next week. No wonder they were out of business by the time I was driving in the mid 90's.
I'd feel extremely guilty doing that!

Back when I was a teenager I worked for a jobber as a delivery man. One day a shop approached me to cut me a deal to get them Supplies under the table. They said they would give me a cut. I guess they figured a poor teen could use the cash. I refused. They went to my employer and told them that I offered THEM the deal - I got fired. About a month later these guys got caught doing the same thing - can’t remember exactly how. But the jobber called me back in and apologized and gave me my job back. I worked my way thru college there. They were good people that got lied too. And yeah they cut that shop off for good. That was tough to go thru but I’m glad it all turned out well.
