So do you guys mix 50/50 or 30/70 with distilled water and an additive?

Distilled water is so hungry for ions that it can leach metals and cause damage.
I have seem industrial water control systems that specify using distilled water voids the warranty.
Don't just use distilled water because "everybody else does".

Local tap water full of crap here. What do you recommend instead of distilled?

Purified or filtered water is better than distilled.

Around here we have great tap water and I have used it in radiators since the 70's with no problems at all.

If you feel better using something other than tap water, use grocery store bottled drinking water. It won't be "actively" dissolving your block, freeze plugs, etc.

Isnt that the water ppl were dying from drinking it?

What about the 50/50 pre-mix? Is that better than buying the concentrate and mixing it yourself? I always wondered what type of water is used in the pre-mix.

went with Evans waterless coolent check out the vid, zero issues, zero maintenance,

I think it is a pretty safe bet that they are using whatever is cheapest and that would be plain ole tap water.

50 50 premix is the most expensive way to buy water.
I can't imagine how anyone buys it, ever.

This basically. You'd be surprised what hard water can do to a system, use this or softened water instead. Maybe yell, "Hey Culligan Man!"
Back on point here! I like going 50/50 as well. Here's what's funny, I just did my daily driver and I'm serious here. It looked liked someone used dark coffee with a slight hint of green on top, really weird. Flushed 3 times before clear, at any rate. The system call's for 10 qts and I know the system was drained and probally dry as the petcock took a dump and was removed for 24 hours, I put 6 qts of A-freeze and like 2 qts. of H2O and I'm no where near 50/50. Every flush I do I put more freeze than water and still come up weak. What's up with that?

Some of todays cars only drain about 50% when you drain the cooling system. I know with the Cadillac Northstar you're lucky to get half of the coolant out of it.

Damn water!

There's a water jacket drain plug on each side of the block.

I buy the pre mixed coolant. It has the filtered ionized water already in it. Been using the pre mixed stuff in our diesels for years with no problems.
