Is it normal for my roadrunner to loss coolant out of the coolant overflow hose? The temperature gauges stays in the middle. original radiator

If you fill it to the top it will, just watch it and it will find its own level

I leave 2 inches from the top. At car shows you can find the guys who can't resist "topping off the radiator by the coolant pool on the ground. Love that 71 RoadRunner. Design by John Herlitz.

Oh thank goodness I found this post! Finally got my 440 running the other day, no problem for days, top off yesterday, started today and almost immediately had antifreeze coming out the over flow. Thinking the worst head gasket, best would be stuck shut thermostat. So I should let it run and find its own level?

they find their own level...no need to fill it to the brim...to rob a coffee comercial

I made a recovery bottle from a $4 walmart drink cup.

I selected one that was graduated, had a separate gasket to seal the lid to the cup, and had an easy to remove, but still tight seal separate cap to drink from.

I drilled a hole in the cap about 2 sizes smaller than the overflow hose to guarantee a seal.

Works perfect. Catches any coolant that gets pushed out, and the radiator does suck in coolant from it, if it needs it. I was almost surprised how well it worked the first day.

Because it's clear with a black lid and graduations, it almost looks like it belongs there.
