This car was trade here in Mexico, as far as I know Mexico was one of the few country's outside US that produce b bodies, to my knowledge a few belvedere in 1967 coronet 68- 70, and charger 1971 -1973 south of your border, ma mopar prefer luxury over performance so the coronet 440 sold here only have the /6 and a special version of the 318, all cars sold in Mexico at least the b bodies 68-70 have the rally dash and a dana 60.
Translation:

" Some one knows what car is this? My grandpa inherited to me and I don't like old junk, trade for a Jetta or a ibiza"

And of course, a wise guy do the trade ...

"Is gone! Like they say, when something go is because something better is coming, goodbye coronet, hello Jetta 1998"

Yeah right even in parts that coronet worth ten times the value at that vw POS...

Maybe I'll stock up on jettas before my next visit!?

All kidding aside .... what is the market for these older cars like in Mexico? Economy, fuel prices, interest in the hobby, availability of parts, ability of the owner to work on the vehicle and their desire to do so all factor into the making of this kind of decision I'm sure. Maybe it was simply becoming a headache easily dealt with by doing this trade?
Even with ebay/facebook, how easy is it for cross border deals?
Maybe this guy was just a bit clueless?
Just curious.

Good question, spotting a b body ( 68 - 73 ) is a rare sight, people have no idea of the value of this cars, the production numbers were low, the market for a classic b body is almos non existing, most were gone, recycled, people here love mustangs , in my experience mechanical parts are not so hard to find, brake conversion is rather easy, plenty of a bodies 74 -76 in junk yards, mopar engines 318 lots of it, also 360, plenty of new hemis for a swap, the tricky part is the body work just like in the US you have to import all the body parts and that can be a head ache, my friends in the classic car scene do most of the work themselves, a few years ago near were I live there was this nice and solid 69 coronet for 1500 usd Ironbuilt like the car but has to be translated to the border, also a tricky part, for me is better to buy online and ship the parts to a friend in Michigan.

A straight, rust free 69 Coronet for a VW?!? WTF!!! I would have given him 2 VW's for the Coronet. Unbelievable!!

Mexico is a different world with different needs. When was the last time you owned one of these. Made in Mexico by Chrysler and never import to the USA.

Looks a little like the earlier Durango. Maybe even a Dakota with a Chevy Tahoe back.
