Hey guys,
Working on my teardown and ran into a couple problems.

1) Any advice for rear leaf spring shackle removal? I can get lower nut, but the upper can can only be reached with an open end. The front is off, all I need to do is that one rear upper shackle/nut.

2) Feel kinda dumb asking this but how does the parking brake cable disconnect from the backing plate? Ive got the brakes all disassembled, just the backing plate with the cable sticking out of it. Cant seem to figure it out...lol.

Thanks guys, and I hope you dont mind if I have some of these basic questions along the way. Im over half way done with the teardown though, so thats a plus.

Whats the problem you're having with the upper nut ?

The parking brake cable has spring loaded tangs that keep it from backing out of the plate. Once you clean the 40 years worth of gear oil and brake dust off of it, it'll be obvious. Getting it out can be tricky, but basically you have to compress the tangs all at the same time and just push it out. A small pipe works well for this.

Thanks man,
Yeah, once I cleaned off all the crap, I see how it comes out. Still havent got it out, but at least now I understand how it works.
As far as the upper nut on leaf, I think I was just frustrated with it being stuck on there and was looking for an easy answer. Im just going to blast it with heat and go to town.

Btw, hemi-itis, good link, bookmarked, thanks!

Once you get the e-brake clamp cleaned up use a small hose clamp, worm type, to compress the fingers. Once they are fully compressed it should push out enough to get it started, then remove the clamp.
