Cowl Flap

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the flap and where does it go? I've seen replacements for these out lately and have not run across them when I took my baby apart.

If anybody knows, please explain where they go, how they are held in and what they are supposed to do.

Hell, I bought one thinking my 67 Coronet had one, wrong. Never did find a use for it.

I'd guess to stop vermin and the like from entering the heater box/car??
