Picked this 440 block up 68 yr
Was this done right

If they pinned the cracks at the ends of the cracks? it was done right otherwise eventually it'll probably start cracking again!

Since it was welded, all they needed to do was to drill the ends to stop the crack. After that, it was dressed and filled.
 
Update, dropped pan of this block. Oil is black, no white milky looking stuff, I think that's a good sign

I hope you got a good deal.... 440 is a good engine block
 
An ol indian guy gave me some advice about horses... he said: "There are too many good ones around to keep a bad one", made sense to me.
 
I'd also move on. Blocks aren't that difficult to find.
