It looks it could be a cool show. I admire the way they keep the old stuff going any way they can without worrying about "correct" parts.

especially to see inside the Cuban car scene,
I'm kind of 1/2 surprised, letting American film crews do it too...

Looks like some devoted Cuban car people in the commercials...
Hopefully it's not all fluff, Castro stuff or some fake added drama...
 
Well, more like cuban crap to me. I should have known better. Communists are ********. Plain and simple. I watched most of it, but missed the last 15 minutes or so. I had to turn it off.
 
I could watch that for at least a couple of episodes. I've always thought it kind of interesting how most of their cars were American, 50-60 years old and they don't have access to parts yet they keep on keepin on. They must be shade tree mechanics at their best. Rigging what ever they can to keep their cars running.

wonder how much the Cuban govt hijacked us for to let us film there.....
 
I learned a little more about the Cuban people & their hardships, laws etc.,
much more than the cars or ingenuity, parts scrounging to keep them on the road
{mid-late 50's US 4dr city, or Russian & Chinese cars too}

IMO it's not a bad show, so far, BUT
we'll give it a few episodes to see if it cuts the mustard...
 
Yep, it's a loser as far as technically correct goes. Struggling to keep their cars running ! Did you notice the front discs on the blue early 50's Oldsmobile ? And the steering box bearings that got fixed by changing a u-joint ? And the ? Year Ford coupe they called a Model A ? I'm done after one !

Yeah, wasnt sure what was up with that u joint deal. I was sort of paying attention. Thought it was something i may have missed. I thought they had to find bearings for the steering gear. They go get a u joint from a fat turd working on a commie crap car. Hope that guy never needs anything when he is in a bind. The other guy goes to buy a 58 chevy. Talks the guy down to 8k from 10k, then insults him and winds up paying 9k. Its no wonder Cuba is what it is.
 
Based on the above reviews - I guess I'll plan on not planning on watching it. I don't even know where it's showing anyway. No need to waste my time.
 
I watched a little of it. Got me thinkin about with all the changes between the U.S and Cuba that all the parts hoarders will go down there and clean house selling parts. In the mean time, I'm waiting for the episode where someone is trying to find some left handed lug nuts. LOL
 
What I seen there was bad editing on the steering column / u joint fix. And the guy that is riding on the cross bar of the bike looks like it could be a certain person that hasn't been on the forum lately.

Geez, guys, these people have had NO factory or aftermarket parts availability since 1961, and then the parts supply dried up real quick, I'm sure. They could not get parts sent in from the US or the rest of the West until very recently. You really expect that Olds to NOT have different brakes? A great many of these cars are running Russian and other former Eastern Bloc Diesel engines...why? Because they couldn't find parts to keep that 265 or 283 SBC, Plymouth flathead Six, or Hudson 308 running. These are the most ingenious shadetree mechanics around, if you ask me. They simply make things work!

The American cars in Cuba were declared "national treasures" by the Castro regime quite a few years ago, and can NOT be exported. Their market for OEM parts is pretty well non-existent, according to a couple of Canadian friends that have been there several times each. Cars do not change hands very often there, if at all, because once you have sold your car, you can't buy another unless you show the need for it. That's why these cars have stayed in families for the last 55 years. The average Cuban makes just $22.00 per month (up recently from $19.00/month), so they couldn't afford imported NOS and restoration parts, anyway. Cars parts that actually make it there are small items that are mailed in from friends and family in the US and other places. No one is going to sweep in and "clean house" with hoardes of parts and make money.
 
Now if only D.V.A.P. could move a portion of their inventory to Cuba the locals would have a gold mine .......unfortunately with the Castro brothers in charge this will never happen!
 
I watched it for the first time last night. Its a break from some of the other car shows out there. From what i hear from my Cuban born neighbor what i see on this show sounds about right. These guys work with the crudest of tools,parts and materials and they make it work. They put any type of engine in any type of car. I want to see how they actually accomplish some of the engine swaps they do. The show may not be for everyone but i ail be watching it
 
Just can't support anything to do with latin Americans. Especially communists. Democrats are communists in hiding. MY opinion only.
