so I installed a new powermaster alternator on my 383 71 rr with all loads fan, highbeams and wipers on i was getting 12.89v so i adjusted the idle screw till i got 13.5-14v at idle. My question is how many rpms should i have at idle and is over a 1000 ok? edelbrock 650cfm carb.

Depends on a few things that are peculiar to your car. Camshaft, converter, etc. Normal idle speed can be anywhere from 650 to 1100. 12.89 volts at idle is fine.

Stock 383. With all loads on would it be ok to have it around 13 volts? I want my cooling fan to work fast.

Bad choice that Powermaster especially when you have to run high RPM's just to get 14.3 constant volts. You should be able to get that at around 650. My fully loaded pickup does with everything on at 600. You know where the trash can is? You could have done way better for way less $$$. See the post below.

I think my rpms were set too low. Im gonna to adjust it where voltage with loads on will be just above battery voltage probably 13 volts. The powermaster alternator is definitely making a difference my wiper dont go slow as hell now even when the voltage was at 12.8. With the original they were barely moving skipping out windshield with headlights on plus i put a new battery in too.

It's more about available amps than volts, that's why you have better performance from your wipers, lights etc..as stated 12-13V is fine.. personally, I would not raise the idle just to try to get a few more fractions of a volt... I let the engine/tuning dictate the idle speed just me though! If you really want to spin your alternator faster at idle, look into changing the pulley size- I know some have done that with success

pjm8047; I, too, have a Powermaster alternator that works just fine. I have dual Spal fans, A/C and FiTech fuel injection, besides a convertible top motor, radio, etc., etc. It has no problem keeping my dual batteries charged. Set the idle speed where it works best for you...
