Ok guys, I have decided (after I test fitted the headers and block this weekend) that I am going to open the inner fender on the pass side. this is original SB car with BB k-member. The car has already been painted.

So I just bought this original 73 BB car and I took the pad off that covers the inner fender. A member here was nice enough to send me measurements for the hole, but I am not interested in making it 100% correct and investing that kind of time. this is a driver and thats all it will be.

So can I just cut enough for clearance for the headers and then still drill the holes to use the clip on cover even know the hole won't be anywhere near as big as the factory cutout? sounds pretty simple but can your forsee any issues with doing it this way? That factory cutout is way bigger than it needs to be in my opinion.

Also, what if I used the factory BB manifolds that are still on the motor in this parts car. Would I still need to clearance that area in mine?

Thanks

i dont see why you are cutting it.. using headers you can get to each spark plug with an extension a u-joint adapter and a socket wrench. #4 piston you can actually get with a wrench from the front.

There is no way this header is fitting with the stock SB car inner fender. I mocked it up. It isn't a matter of getting to the plugs, there isn't physically enough space for the header. Maybe it is just these cheap headers.

I just saw your email as well, i will respond tomorrow after I call greyhound.

what brand/size headers are these- I know what u mean about no room

It's tight....

sorry for assuming on the spark plug thing.. maybe i didnt read all of your first post completely... i apologize.

i would do what you suggested in the first post to gain clearance. that is, of course, if you do not care about OE exact resto' stuff.. which obviously i dont think you do or you would not have asked this question from the get go :D

If you want to change later on, you will always find a BB inner fender panel. I personally, since I wouldnt mind doing it... would find one and weld it in. Did you get one with the RR you bought?

Thanks folks. These are the cheap summit headers and I got those because I was told they fit decent with some slight adjustments made. I did ding the tubes on the driver side and have that fitting pretty good. On the pass side, #2 tube that runs across the top hits pretty good and #'s 4&6 hit a good bit as well where they radius is that starts the downward exit. I probably could just beat that up pretty good, but figured why not cut what I need out.

This is no resto. This 73 Satellite has been in the family since new and this just started as a rebuild for my son to drive and it has already morphed into much more than just a quick rebuild.

I did get a BB inner fender in that car I bought (that is where I took the rubber flap from), but my car is in paint already and all I have left do do is rebuild the frontend and put motor and trans in along with a few other odds and ends. I am more than likely keep the inner fender out of that other car so if I do the car over in a few years or so, i will make the appropriate switch then.

Then I stared thinking that I mocked this up with stock heads and I will probably run edlebrocks so I am not even sure these will work as I think those have angled plugs. Then again I think I am going to do a stroker for it with the 400 out of that BB car I bought.

Either way I need to get moving as racing season is about to kick off and I need to get the duster ready for action. I don't have these problems with it as there is almost no inner fenders and have fenderwell headers and motor plate. LOL
