Installing 400 big block cylinder heads today. From what I understand only oil lightly on all bolts then 40 foot lbs then 70. Do any of these bolts go into water jacket and require sealer? I don't think so but want to be absolutely sure. I know the exhaust studs do.

Install all the bolts before torquing, smuge down. Remember bolt sequence.

Oil on threads, oil on head bolt shoulder area, torque to final in three steps. I usually go 25-50-70 following the proper sequence. Bolts should not go to water, but it is easy to check with a light and screwdriver; bottoms out-blind, goes thru-to water.

Just exhaust manifold studs get into the water jackets. Not the bolts.
