Likely because the 8.75 ABody housing end to end length is wrong
ABody s/b 52 5/8" I beleive

Also a 66-67 B-body is narrower than 68-70.

I have a 66 B body housing that measures 54 1/2. Always check what you have because factory tolerance isn't on the money. I've parted a lot of cars since the early 70's and have found many things that are not according to the charts.
