Rebuilding 8 1/4, I'm guessing both of these are fine. Are there any kind of power limitations on these parts?

I wouldn't be looking for more than 500 hp at max, and I won't be racing with it, let alone racing on slicks. Engine is 318 that will be built and possibly force inducted. I know everybody loves the 440, but that can be another car.

Doesn't matter what others love, it's your car and you make it the way you like it!
I am not sure though how much a 8-1/4" would be able to handle, others might.
You might be able to find a 8-3/4" rear axle you could use instead if a 8-1/4" would not suffice.
You could drop a mail to Doctordiff also and ask them for advise.

Back before Uncle Tony's YouTube channel blew up, I asked him about the 8 1/4 and he said it could handle 500 hp. Then he broke the one on Bottle Rocket and put in an 8 3/4. He knows how to set up a car to launch hard though, and I don't plan to use mine like that.

It's likely I'll eventually upgrade to a built 8 3/4 but I can't afford all the good stuff at once. For now I'll build up the 318 8 1/4 drivetrain and get it ready to go into something like a Dart.

The Doctor Diff rebuild kit looks like a good deal but I wonder why it is 2/3's the price of the Dana/Spicer master rebuild kit - link

Doctor Diff specializes in this stuff, I cannot imagen he would sell poor quality materials.
Look at his price for Ring & Pinion sets for example, compared to other manufacturers their price is low, i am planning to buy a set from them as i would have more confidence in them wanting to deliver a good product as this is their business.
On the Doctor Diff 8-3/4" kit there is a choice for optional Timken bearings, not on the 8-1/4" but maybe they could supply if you want.
The link you send is the price for Spicer/Dana to make money on your purchase, but also Rockauto wants a piece of that so the price is higher.
It doesn't mean you get better quality.

try Ratech Manufacturing for a rebuild kit . they supply most of the parts ,,, bearings ,shims , crush sleeves etc. for all the kits on the market --very reasonably priced and available from Summit Racing ( free shipping ) or direct

Found this when I searched for RaTech -
If it has a Ratech installation kit see if you can return it too. Summit kits are not much good. Tom's Differentials and Randy's Ring & Pinion have much better kits.
