I'm starting the build of two dashes for a friend. He wants a digital Rallye dash and a Non-Rallye dash. I've done a lot of restoration and customizing for him in the past 4 years for his 71-72 Dodge Chargers. The Rallye dash will be mostly in Blue with accents in green, red and yellow. The Non-Rallye will be Red. Both faces have damage around the radio area and will need to be fixed and made to look like radio deletes.
I'll post some starter pics soon. Thanks

Here is some of my past work in customizing:
Building a Knightrider 2000

Nose, redesign for customer. This is the plug built to make a mold from.

Restoring the interior on a customers car, to be made into a KR2000. Yep, that's me.

The finished work! No the dash for the Chargers won't look like this?! :icon_shaking:

The hardest part will be filling in the radio holes. :eusa_pray:

I think you could sell those radio "delete" blanks for both dashes.

I've seen two OEM ones on ebay and both sold for big bucks.

There was a really nicely done K 2000 at Plant city last fall.
Correct nose, and nicely executed dash and wheel.
Was for sale fairly cheap (6K IIRC).

Was that your work?

Magnum, Thats friggen sweet!! Wiring can really slow me down.

When you re-do the bezels are you going to keep the woodgrain or are you going to delete that too? Its hard to match the grain, but it can be done. I've restored a couple radio delete bezels that had been cut for radios (go figure). There are some early pics. from Chrysler of a 71 b body ralley cluster that was painted argent and without grain.
I just got the new classic industries MOPAR catalog. They have new 71-4 bezels that have been customized with extra guages where the radio was. They are not for stock guages. They only cost 900. LOL. Something to look at for ideas. I didnt see them in the online catalog. Keep us posted on your progress. Good Luck!

That looks amazing. You should work in the movies.

Have you heard of Intellitronix LED gauges and kits?

http://www.intellitronix.com/

I wonder how their 6 gauge kit would look in a Coronet or Roadrunner?

Live long and prosper.
Thanks Spock, lol - Intellitronix's won't return my emails? Wanted some custom gauges but no reply? The gauges I'm using are theirs and older Nordskog gauges. On your Coronet/Roadrunner, which years?

The radio delete will not be molded just adding plastic to the dashes I have. On the KR2000 in Plant City, We built Multiple types so would have no idea if it is one of ours unless seeing it? Thanks!
One TV dash or Two TV dash cars also had three different noses, even had right hand drive dashes for over seas cars.

Not sure of the finish of the dashes? He has not made up his mind yet? The argent sounds great! Cr@p! only $900 hope you get the gauges with that dash? I do know that I'll be chroming or silver leafing around the gauges on the Rallye dash. Thanks!

1968-70 Coronet/RR

I measured my standard dash cluster and the Intellitronix 6 gauge will fit; albeit, a little small. I'm going to Photoshop some pics to see what it would look like.

Magnum, im more then impressed looking at that picture, That had to take a LOT of thought, imagination and work, even if it doesn't do what all it looks like it should! Thats unreal and would be to have a cock pit in a car looking like that. If i could master something like that i would have to really think of a body style that would come close to matching the flight controls that operates the ride. And a Dodge Charger with the hideaway headlights is the first one that comes to mind, ill never do it but the concept IMO sounds like fun!! Thumbs up man!!

Thanks, That one is a premade kit where I worked but, did take time to build. Most of the gauges do work in one form or another. On the two TV dash shown one display is for rear view camera and the other is hooked up to a DVD player in the trunk. You get a crowd around every time you take it out at nights!

My first Digital dash was in my 1971 Duster 340 back in the early 80's and was close to looking like a high tech cock pit! It was built from scratch, there was no one making digital gauges aftermarket. Some day I will get my Magnum GT E58 T-top Digital dash done, I just don't have the money right now for my own car?! :(

The one your building will look cool, I imagine that will make people take a second look when they see it at a show! ill be honest though, the original one the way there built looks pretty good to me, I like how there put together..

Not sure the outcome of the finish yet, I'm guessing the rallye is going to keep its wood grain look by the way he's taking. I want to do the non-rallye in more of a Mad Max style myself but I'll have to do it the way he wants it.
So how did you repair the radio holes on yours? Do you have pics of them and the 71 dash painted argent?
Inquiring mind here wanting to know and learn any better ways!

I'm going to use a product called Smooth-on for most moldings and builds in plastic to rebuild the cut outs. That's how I plan to copy and rebuild the wood grain texture on the rallye.(Rubber molds) The non-rallye looks to be a little bit easier as in the bottom of the dash is the same measurement across. Making it an easy copy and paste procedure. Both dashes will keep their original A/C-Heater controls but will be lit up with color matching LED's instead of bulbs, same with the other indicators.

OK, I've started on the non-rallye dash first. I removed the "Window washer" and "Light switch" lens's and discovered the one was darkening and both had lots of pin holes in the black ink. So I'm most likely am going to reprint them. :confused1:

Copy-N-Paste!/Non-Rallye

Here I'm copying part of the dash to help reproduce plastic to cover the radio cut out and damage done by the previous owner.

The part I'm going to copy:

The damaged radio hole that will be made to look like a radio delete:

Here is what I use, if you've never tried this and want too,use a slower version so you have time for corrections: :D

Its cool to see another mold maker on here. Ive done some rare radio and heater control deletes for 66-67 Oldsmobiles. Theyre pretty popular with the racer crowd.

Youre work is awesome!!
