How do you guys feel about having taillights and front marker lights always on with the ignition? I guess they call it Daytime running lights. I guess a relay would be needed and I plan on upgrading to all LED so it wont be too much of a drain on the wiring. Is this a :screwy: idea?

In the 60’s you could actually order a daytime driving light. Usually mounted in the center of the grill, or bumper. A friend had a 1959 Pontiac Parisienne convertible with a daytime driving light.

The way people drive anymore, im thinking everything might be better off with the lights on all the time, especially motorcycles. One of my pet peeves is people who either dont know they should, or simply refuse to use the lights in inclement weather and dusk/dawn.

As a retired truck driver for 37 years, I hate daytime running lights, for another reason, which is the the reason that I hate them anyway. They do nothing in my opinion, just like anything else, you get used to them and stop paying attention to them. Inclimate weather, yes, headlights on is a good thing.

Your probably right, but they do look cool being on when your driving during day.

Just pull the headlight switch out one click while driving.
Stay tuned for more crazy solutions!

I'd think of a few other things to do instead. Actually... many other things.

I believe that daytime driving lights (daytime running lights) first appeared in the USA, in the late 70s-early 80's as standard equipment. I believe the daytime driving/daytime running lights came from Canada as a safety item. No one explained that the power came from the car's electrical system and it didn't cost anything to operate.....bigger alternator and wiring and extra fuel costs not with standing....because it was "safer to be seen"......undocumented without statistics.....and was adopted universal by the US auto makers....there was no discount on the automobile insurance for being "safer". The motoring public just accepted the reasoning. In 1975 sort of like catalytic convers changed carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) in engine exhaust to carbon dioxide (CO2).......RESULTING IN.....everyone is now worrying about excessive CO2 levels in the atmosphere and carbon sequestration.....and trying to bury the carbon underground.....so...we've shot ourselves in the foot again....trading one issue for another. PERHAPS, we should eliminate the catalytic converters because with digitally controlled engine management systems, the combustion process is so improved now, catalytic converters are no longer needed.......but old ideas die hard as well as the old laws, perhaps daytime running lights can be eliminated just like catalytic converters can be eliminated......?????......just my opinion and thoughts........

Thank you Bob. I have contacted my friend that had the convertible. It was an add on. NOT anything to do with government regulations. You could get it from the dealer.
In 1978 we did not have mandatory driving lights and still didn’t in 1992 IIRC.

The one click was for Parking lights. Not driving lights. I see lots of idiots driving around thinking they are parked.
Does anyone turn on their "parking lights" when about to park their car ? Why are "parking lights" in the front of the car ?

I don't remember seeing DRLs until the late 90's/early 00's.

One thing they do- make it easier for LIDAR to clock you.

Thank someone at Chrysler for the option that I don't have to turn the damn headlights off every time I start the engine!
