No matter, it's a double pumper. Either the front float is stuck or there is a restriction. I just had the same problem on a 850 Holley. I ended up replacing both power valves and doing some cleaning. I had been getting it to work temporarily by tapping on the front bowl.
Well, the squirters don't really do anything as far as keeping the car running...do you mean it dies only when you throttle it? What's been changed or worked on, or was it working fine and this just started happening out of nowhere? Jerry makes a good point, check the level in the bowl and make sure the float moves free.... but if it starts and then immediately dies it could also be a problem with the ignition (ballast resistor or coil). If you feel strongly that it is the carb, get a rebuild kit and give it a re-fresh.
