Does any one know how to safely remove a "440 6bbl" decal on an organosol painted 69 Road Runner hood? I don't know if this is even possible without ruining the paint under the decal. I know about trying to use a hair dryer to try to heat it but I'm a little skeptical about that because the hood gets really hot on a Summer day and I've seen no indication that it affects the decal. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have had good success using the 3m stripe off wheels. Used them on multiple paint surfaces and haven't had any paint issues. I have not tried it on organosal paint however.

Lighter fluid works well on decals. Just get it started at one edge, then slowly peel back while keeping the decal wet on the underneath. I also use that method for removing price stickers from cardboard packages. :icon_thumright:

Just so you can be 101% sure of success without damaging the paint, find a painted surface on a non-conspicuous surface to test it out first.

Thanks guys. Those are 2 approaches I didn't know about. I googled the lighter fluid technique and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPoyWywKLBY

That guy used lighter fluid plus a wallpaper stripper called Dif ro remove a price tag from an old album cover.

I also looked into the 3M stripe off wheel. I had never head of that either. I'm not sure that would work well on the textured organosol though. I'll do some more digging into that too.

how long has the decal been on the hood?
It's been on there a long time. I'm guessing about 8 years. I'm expecting this to be bad++. I have some more organosol if it ruins the paint...

Thanks for the good suggestions!

Thanks guys. Those are all good suggestions. I didn't know about the lighter fluid technique. I did some googling on that and found vidoes where people were using that to remove price tags from old album covers. It works without hurting the cardboard underneath. That looks promising. MarPar: the decals have been on for at least 8 years so I'm expecting a battle.

I'm converting from a wedge to a hemi so the old 440 6BBL decals have got to go.

Thanks again.

im sure it will be a battle no matter what, but Im just worried about the organisol fading around the sticker and you having a nice, dark spot where said sticker used to be
