Degreeing a camshaft, problems

I am using a hydraulic lifter yes, and measuring directly at the lifter.

You didn’t answer whether the cam uses a roller lifter or not, and if it does...... that you’re degreeing it in with a roller lifter.

Sorry, its a hydraulic flat tappet cam and im using a regular hydraulic lifter recommended by hughes.

He likely just has a bad timing set.
We had one that was 6 degrees retarded at the 0 mark.

I bought a Lunati roller cam from Summit. Part number on the box matched the p/n on the cam BUT the specs were way off. They did however match the next cam down. So it was etched wrong and stuffed in the wrong box. Lunati made good on the exchange but it was a major PITA.

I'd be talking to Hughes before sending it out to a shop only to have them come to the same conclusion !!

Well, mine is at the VT Engine Service machine shop and they are installing new cam bearings, among other tasks. Since they have the cam in and out to get that sorted, and, they are assembling the rest they might as well do that too. I'm sure they are more proficient than I.
