I was wondering if anyone here has information about APT or has experience buying a transmission there?
I orderd my 5 speed for my '72 roadrunner over 9 week ago at APT and started calling after 4, 5 weeks about the status.First 2 or 3 they told me the transmission wasn't in and they've been waiting on tremic. After the transmission was in the tailhousing was the problem , they told me it was specialy made and had to be machined. ( they new for 7 or 8 week now that they would need this tailhousing......) After being pretty frustrated about this on the phone with Paul (sales) he ensured me this was the last part that was missing. Al other parts were in...!!! I also ordered a B body fit kit and heavier clutch. But al was in!! This was last week and I called them today about the status and another sales man told me the bellhousing is missing.....%÷%&# WTF...?

Thanks already

I from the Netherlands. ...so sorry for lack of american english..

DennyG: I have purchased several items from American Powertrain and not had any problems. I would recommend that you email or call the original salesperson, Paul, and ask for an explanation. If your not satisfied with his answer, ask to speak with the manager. I'm surprised that you're being treated this way, but just bump the problem up the ladder. Your English is fine. Good luck.

The guys who bought the Passon 5 waited 4 YEARS. You are doing ok.

After I placed my oder (4 or 5 weeks) I red about delivering problems at American powertrain on a ford forum. And a guy from Sweden on a Swedish car forum, he had some mayer problems too. I just purchased my first B body and it is still sitting in WV. I told APT about my purchase and that I would want to ship the car and this tranny along with al other parts to the Netherlands. I don't know what to think of them.... Up untill now every time I call they make promises but they never keep them...! Just sets me back another week everytime, and it almost 10 weeks now.

Thanks Denny

DennyG: We have a member here who also lives in the Netherlands. His name is Marcel and he has a 63 Plymouth Savoy that he is restoring. His name here is: mr4speed. You can PM him. He also has a site at: www.mister4speed.blogspot.com Maybe he can help you navigate the 'vendor' waters. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice co.dave , as soon as anything new is happening I will post it here right away!

Meanwhile if anyone else has information or some experience with American powertrain I would really appreciate that. .

thanks again

Call them again, and if Paul U, cannot fix your issue or at least give answers, ask him to talk to Gray Fredrick, Gray is the owner, but he is not there all the time. I am waiting on a 4L60E for my Roadrunner at this time, but I am not in any hurry for mine. they are just a few miles down the road from me in Tennessee and are good people and will make it right. Gray is on this forum sometimes and always will respond if he sees this thread.
I know they are having trouble getting bell housings from Quicktime.
I would not worry about them, but I would push them for truthfull answers.

Usually what happens is while putting you're order together... a big order or preferred customer puts in an order and they put you off for them or has a return and they hurry to make the preferred guy happy and even though you're order has passed through them several times over they make excuses... so get creative... if you can cancel you're order cancel it because when you do finally get it delivered it will be a combo of returns and then another year get another.... if it concerns you enough to start a thread the back out of it and get it another way like through the guy who has no problems with them because he's on the preferred list and have him ship to you after he's satisfied with their product.... it's who ya know

All I can say is WOW! This is a pretty good fabrication of a story. I was a first time customer and was treated great, received my order in a fast and efficient manner and got great customer service and a product that not only solved a problem, but continues to work well every day. As the previous poster and myself have suggested, take it up with the sales guy and the manager. They are a good company to deal with. Every business has hiccups and employees who don't always put forth their best for the company and the customers. Hang in there. It'll happen.

I get answers from Paul but am not sure if I can trust everything he says? And he's also not in all the time and sometimes hard to reach. And I don't have al the time, I'm running out of it. Just Yesterday I called with the (former) owner to check how much longer the car could sit there in his garage. Well ...not to long any more, so I really hope your right about them , and that they can be trusted. I think " sleepar" is right but I hope he's not.....if you know what I mean.

Pure speculation mate...Customers like to believe this happens but it's not very common.

Denny,
I purchased a hydraulic clutch conversion from them, had no problem getting the part but opted later not to do the conversion and ask to return for credit. Got a RMA(return material authorization) from them and of course had a restocking fee but took forever for them to credit me back my money. Found out later that the main parts guy had quit the company and left the department in a total wreck. At least that was their excuse so stay on them, and as suggested below let the upper management know of your problem. Give out never give up.

How do you know all this.....just curious...?

From years of dealing with numerous parts guys in numerous companies for cars trucks equipment boats motorcycles as a customer as an employee.... I can walk into say a Napa any Napa just for a hypothetical... walk in there after they couldn't help a buddy because there too lazy to look up a part or something and leave with the part a few minutes because I said I worked for the power company and get there cash price for a third of the retail... because the power company is a big account to them and they will kiss my *** to make me happy over a guy they rarely see mutch business from... I bought parts from the same guy for years and years even though he worked at several different places because he would take the time to get the book out and order me what I wanted.... I could walk in a minute before close with a slip of paper hand it to him and come back the next day just as they UN locked the front door and have all my parts... slip him a tip and on my way... but those days are over. Customer service now is 'what the fuc# you want now like you owe them you're business and they will tell you it will be ready in a week 52 times rather than say a year and be honest up front.... my cool old parts guy quit because he couldn't get things reliable and couldn't stand the vendors games 15 years ago...

Wow . . . Do I dare share all of the story of my parts order ? ?

Agreed - I'm not in a hurry ( good thing ) but if anything could possibly go wrong - it went wrong with my order . . .

?? See post #8: So you're one of those 'preferred' customers you were talking about in post #8?

Are you talking about an order at American powertrain or in general...?

Just got off the phone with Josh form APT . He told me my oder will ship tomorrow .......!! I hope every word is right on the money. ...

Keep you guys updated here

Well......my order didn't ship like they promised. ......again! ! The next day at the end of the day I called them and talked to the telephonist . She promised me to email me friday but up untill now no email or call back. ...

I feel for you... get another trans orders from jegs and have it on the way... cancel the order they have wasted enough of you're time.... something tells me they will be out of business soon or something like that.
If you used a credit card and the have the# replace the card you call the company after the money is right.
