Hellooo great people of the forum. So I was cleaning out the shed and I stumbled across this MSD box, I think I got it at a swap meet but I can’t remember. Anyway,

1. Is there a way to test it?

2. Is it worth trying?

3. Will it make my car run better?

4. Should I just put it back where I found it ?

5. Do I try to sell it?

I know lots of questions, maybe someone can shed some light on my shed find, thanks !

Download the directions from the MSD page at Holley. That was the first Multiple Spark Discharge unit if I remember correctly. Whatever you do be mindful that the unit will knock you on your arse if you get too close to the coil or coil wire while cranking. Also, you should have a good set of plug wires, non metallic.
I used one of those for years on my racecars. I hope it's still got some zap for you...

IMO.......Consider doing what I did when I first got the 1970 Plymouth GTX, RS23V0A******........collect all the old MSD stuff and promptly deposit it (the MSD stuff) in nearest round file. The Plymouth has an origional Prestolite Dual point distributor, Essex coil and 0.5 ohm ballast resistor for the past 36 years....and never missed a beat.and never had second thought........I'm sure the Pertronix boys will object......on general principles.......just my opinion......

Fine, I’ll bite, even though I know how this is going to end. Here goes the beginning of the end of another thread , because “the all mighty” Bob has commented and now it’ll be a pissing match instead of anything of any value.

First of all why in all if Gods green earth do you feel so damn compelled to give your vin number ? This isn’t pebble beach , this isn’t the Goodguy nationals , nobody is questioning the authenticity of your car, but I will play your game. Are you implying that if I had an RS27, the dual point distributor wouldn’t last as long ?

Secondly, if your all mighty points ignition is vastly superior, how come mother mopar went away from them? In fact , why did every car company go away from points ?

Lastly , and I maybe answering part 3 of my own question , if I’m not mistaken MSD was founded in 1970 by missile engineers at white sands, so pretty sure they know a thing or two about engineering and proper combustion.
 
Thanks for confirming my suspicions, it’s on the shelf , why not put it on the car and see , I must have bought it for a reason, and what do I have to loose other then a few hours :lol: .

There’s 2 types of people, factory did ok, and factory did ok but the aftermarket did better!


So now I have to figure out the wires, and I will admit there’s a lot of things I can do, however wiring diagrams are my kryptonite. So there’s big red and black, obviously battery. Orange I think goes positive coil . White negative coil. Red switch. Black ground? Then there’s this silly white connector , where does pinkish wire and whitish wire go?

That’s where it gets confusing, page 16 shows for Chrysler electronic ignition, which I have if I didn’t make that clear I apologize, to use it and it’s a green and violet color.

I suggest that you rename this thread....
"Stuff we found in the shed".
This would be entertaining to read that stuff that others stumbled upon while looking for other things.
I could contribute.....
For the past several days, I've looked ALL over for the turn signals and headlight bezels for the 69 Valiant grille I have in my 72 Duster.

The bezels I have there are for the 70-71 models and have a light argent texture.
I would have never sold or given the lenses and bezels away but I looked and looked for days. Finally I was in the attic and saw a box labeled 69 Valiant Grille lenses and bezels.
In the process of looking, I threw out all sorts of empty boxes and broken parts. I consolidated parts into groups, I found stuff that I forgot that I had.
 
Well if I can crack the code on my wiring issue, now that I have concluded I will in fact use it , because why not, I wouldn’t mind, that sounds rather entertaining!

The orange and black go to the coil. Reds the trigger. White goes nowhere( points). The weird connector is your magnetic pickup. Try it both ways.
 
I think it if it works run it, since its one of the old style MSD units it fits in with the retro vibe of your car. Keystone klassics, 8 track player, custom paint on the roof, the old MSD will fit right in.

If it works. It is better than any of the new boxes you can buy today with all of their overseas components.
