Did I find treasure in my shed?

Fine, I’ll bite, even though I know how this is going to end. Here goes the beginning of the end of another thread , because “the all mighty” Bob has commented and now it’ll be a pissing match instead of anything of any value.

First of all why in all if Gods green earth do you feel so damn compelled to give your vin number ? This isn’t pebble beach , this isn’t the Goodguy nationals , nobody is questioning the authenticity of your car, but I will play your game. Are you implying that if I had an RS27, the dual point distributor wouldn’t last as long ?

Secondly, if your all mighty points ignition is vastly superior, how come mother mopar went away from them? In fact , why did every car company go away from points ?

Lastly , and I maybe answering part 3 of my own question , if I’m not mistaken MSD was founded in 1970 by missile engineers at white sands, so pretty sure they know a thing or two about engineering and proper combustion.
You sound like a sorehead. There will be opinions that don't meet yours.

He gives the beginning of his VIN so everyone knows what he is driving with seven digits instead of a sentence. Many people don't say what they are working on when asking for help, ans we have to pry the info out 5 posts later.

Points do need looked at and some sort of maintenance. That's why all car companies went away from it. But the factory electronic ignitions don't last forever. When I worked in ships, plenty of tow in cars with bad modules, pickups, etc. Ask some distributor guys that work on them, these prestolite units are high quality. If the masses can't adjust dual points don't blame the unit, blame the guy working on it.

MSD parts works great for a while, then failure sets in. Don't need to spend thousands on a problem that doesn't exist.

So when a used, early edition box like this is pulled out it could work great or be dead. Decide if it's worth your time. To RJRenton it is not, to others it is. Have a great day!

Y’all can circle jerk each other later if y’all want to , but giving the vin is complete arrogance . You can say I have this , you don’t have to say well my vin is this. In fact I don’t think
I’ve ever seen anyone on the forum give partial vin.

Also , on an ignition box , it doesn’t matter , even if it’s factory , it’ll work on a 440 in a challenger, charger , GTX , even a dart. It’ll work on a 318 in a satellite, or a 383 in a satellite.

RJRenton just has to have a pissing match with everyone, and if you want great evidence of that, go to the thread on lower radiator hose springs. Thanks for your input and have a great day

Just when I was going to start giving the VIN on my mild-mannered Cordoba in all my posts !!
I mean , you say cordoba whatever engine, sure. You give vin sure. But why both , that’s where I see number Nazi arrogance. I have this and here’s the vin to prove it!!!!

I’m asking about an aftermarket part, I’m not judging anyone’s car

I was just poking fun.... as I do when driving my SS22G9R all-original with the factory electronic ignition. :D Yikes !!

I am too ….. wait , You have electronic ignition? Oh heavens how does it run!?!? .

Like I said, some like how Chrysler did, some like to improve , some like throwing numbers around

On my all-original SS22G9R it runs great ! BUT ! I'm gonna trash it in the circular file and retro-fit points and a condenser ! just my opinion, of course...
Well of course, I’ve never gotten an answer on why every car manufacturer got away from points , so I guess there’s no reason!

Reasons I don't go to car shows.
(With my car)
That clip only came in 69.5, and your car is wrong!!
Tell em to go and pick on some other car.....this car isn't for sale anyways. If they don't take the hint, I flip a dime to the jerk and tell the jerk it's so they can go find a pay phone to call someone who cares.

And it's up to a quarter now. Inflation, you know. :poke:

I always ask them. Where is your car? Or, what car did you bring? When they answer, I tell them to go stand by their car if they even have one there. Most of the time they don't.

I still toss a dime....no use wasting a quarter lol

Had some moron call me a liar when he asked me how fast my race car was....I took my 71 Duster race car to a local parking lot get together. Don't like when people that don't even know me call me that. I got up in his face and realized he was half drunk and that's when I told him to 'hold on, I got something you need to see' and went and opened the door of my pickup but he left when I turned to head back to him. Maybe he wasn't as drunk as I thought lol

If anyone is still intrigued by the magical MSD box in the shed, I just had a great time with a Holley rep. He had me send pictures of the box because he didn’t know what I was talking about. He then had to walk around the office and try to find someone who’s seen one. And the consensus is , wow that thing is old and probably works better than our new ones!

He also told me the magnet pickup line is a traveler and it won’t fry anything hooking it backwards, it’ll just make
The timing jump if it’s wrong and I just flip the wires. So I guess I’ll bench test

I'll say this - there are two possible reasons why that MSD unit is in your garage - either someone used it and it failed, or the car it was used in was sold on and the unit was kept.

Hook it up and see if it goes.... it could be fun if it works. I used one for a while, and while it changed the engine a little, it wasn't really what I wanted as a relatively factory looking car. It's more if you're serious on racing and don't care about the appearance. Even though I had the MSD unit hidden under the battery tray, you could still tell by the wiring there was something going on. :)

Nice find....if it works and you don't want it, there's someone out there who will buy it.

I tell everyone I drive an XP29N...said me...never.

Well there’s a 3rd reason and you mentioned it without knowing , someone could have wanted to go back to factory

Me? I’m pretty sure you know my car well, I’m definitely one of those people that thinks Chrysler gave us a beautiful canvas to paint on
