You sound like a sorehead. There will be opinions that don't meet yours.Fine, I’ll bite, even though I know how this is going to end. Here goes the beginning of the end of another thread , because “the all mighty” Bob has commented and now it’ll be a pissing match instead of anything of any value.
First of all why in all if Gods green earth do you feel so damn compelled to give your vin number ? This isn’t pebble beach , this isn’t the Goodguy nationals , nobody is questioning the authenticity of your car, but I will play your game. Are you implying that if I had an RS27, the dual point distributor wouldn’t last as long ?
Secondly, if your all mighty points ignition is vastly superior, how come mother mopar went away from them? In fact , why did every car company go away from points ?
Lastly , and I maybe answering part 3 of my own question , if I’m not mistaken MSD was founded in 1970 by missile engineers at white sands, so pretty sure they know a thing or two about engineering and proper combustion.
He gives the beginning of his VIN so everyone knows what he is driving with seven digits instead of a sentence. Many people don't say what they are working on when asking for help, ans we have to pry the info out 5 posts later.
Points do need looked at and some sort of maintenance. That's why all car companies went away from it. But the factory electronic ignitions don't last forever. When I worked in ships, plenty of tow in cars with bad modules, pickups, etc. Ask some distributor guys that work on them, these prestolite units are high quality. If the masses can't adjust dual points don't blame the unit, blame the guy working on it.
MSD parts works great for a while, then failure sets in. Don't need to spend thousands on a problem that doesn't exist.
So when a used, early edition box like this is pulled out it could work great or be dead. Decide if it's worth your time. To RJRenton it is not, to others it is. Have a great day!
