Well I just had my mind blown today. I went to hook up the linkage and realized that I do not have the 2 holes on
my 727 to hook up the bar that the torque shaft connects too. I have not been able to find much on this but is
there more than one casing for the 727 small block engine? If so, has anyone ever fabricated a sturdy bracket
that would work or any alternatives to keep the console with linkage? I can not believe they made different
casings before I did the conversion. Any help would be appreciated. It sounds like I may have to get a different
transmission with the holes? Any recommendations as to what to get? Thanks for any replies in advance.

What is the trans out of? What kind of car do you have?

Post pictures of what you have if you can.

It's a 1972 roadrunner 340 with 727 3 speed. It is the original transmission and the lighter pic is mine under the speedo cable. I am looking to buy a rebuilt one but the guy wants 600 for it and it's 200 miles away. Is it worth it? I put a second picture of his transmission and it has 2 holes that it looks like I need. The pic is kind of dark but the one painted black is his. His is also out of a 66 model, are there any differences I should worry about? How about transferring the kick down attachment and the shifter mechanism. Sorry, I was not expecting to have to do this and I have not had to do this before. Thanks for the help.

Wow, I did not know that you could just change out the back tail housing. Is it a hard thing to do? Much cheaper than changing the transmission. I take it will have to come out of the
car again? I have not had the car since it was new but I am the third owner with my brother being the second. We knew the original owner and have all the service records since it
was new. I have his receipts from 1981 when he had it rebuilt and it is still the original as far as I know. However, the car was a column shift car so maybe they used a non column
shiftter console. Thanks for the info!

You should be able to get the tail housing out in the car. I would measure yours first to make sure there isnt something weird going on, then get the tail housing and install it in the car. Thats what i would do.

Thanks Hemi Rebel, that is super helpful. I just looked up a how to and its not very hard to do. This is much better than replacing a transmission that has already been rebuilt. This has made my day much better. Still can not believe there are different tail shafts but I guess it makes sense. Now I just gotta a buy a shaft.
