Hi Guys. I got my # 1 piston to top dead center. I dropped in my oil gear- slot parallel to camshaft. Why is it when it is time to drop in the distributor and rotor point to #1 piston doesn't the tang on the bottom of the distributor RUN PARALLEL with camshaft. Tried picture. Thanks

Turn the gear until the rotor lines up. Its not important that the gear lines up with #1, just the rotor.:headbang:

WHEN i POINT THE ROTOR TOWARDS #1 CYLINDER IT IS NOT GOING TO FIT INTO THE TOP OF THE OIL GEAR BECAUSE THEY SAY ALIGN UP THE OIL GEAR PARALLEL WITH THE CAMSHAFT. SO YOUR SAYING IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER WERE THAT OIL GEAR LINES UP. THE ONLY THING THAT SHOULD MATTER IS THAT THE ROTOR POINTS TO #1 PISTON. IS THAT RIGHT?

That's right....it doesn't matter where the intermediate shaft is pointing. Set it up to where the distributor fits and doesn't have any interference with the vacuum canister.

Thanks. I don't know why all these books say line the oil gear slot in line with the cam. It should say as a rule of thumb or whats most important is that the rotor points to #1 piston so you may have to play with the oil gear to get that to happen.

For me, it really doesn't matter where the rotor is pointing but it can confuse some when #1 wire isn't on the #1 terminal on the cap. I just index the wires around in the right order but if you get the vacuum canister in where it doesn't hit anything, you will usually be in the right spot anyways.

This is good info to know when I put my motor back together.:headbang:
