Hoping to get my 400 fresh build finally to start it up next weekend. After hearing and reading, so many post about trying to get the engine to start up as soon as possible, so it doesn't hurt to cam, and then of course, running it I already put fuel in the Elder Brock 1411 carb from the fuel line input and also tried as much gas as I can in the fuel filter and the line to the pump. Got number one cylinder on top dead center bouncer looked very close to zero backed up engine to about 12 to 14 BTDC. Installed electronic distributor and I believe I have all the wiring correct rotor is pointing to plug #1. Is there a way I can check with either an induction timing light or a simple test light to see if ignition is working correctly or at least getting it to number one plug? Is there a way I can check with either an induction timing light or a simple test light to see if ignition is working correctly or at least getting it to number one plug? Scared that I'll have issues trying to start it up and I have a distributor or coil problems. Any suggestions? Would love to hear them so I can sleep at night. Lol. Thank you so much.

Easiest way in your case if it is a mopar elect system, Have a timing light hooked up, take the dist out and spin it while powered up and see if the timing light sparks. Set the motor to TDC and re install the dist to TDC. Unfortunately you will have to set the timing but it will check the system and will start. Just my $.02

Take the distributor back out and rotate it by hand w/wires hooked up to verify spark.
Cranking the engine a bit to verify lifter rotation before start-up is a good idea i.m.o. .
If intake is off you can then add more came lube after cranking.
Much less chance of wiping lobes if lifter rotation is verified as the camshaft rotates.
Good luck.

Thank you HALIFAXHOPS and Daniel Scocum. Will try removing distributor and seeing if the timing light lights up. Great idea. The engine is all buttoned up and I did an oil pre-lube and put the valve covers back on. We'll give it a try when I get back out there. thank you.
