    Hi there,
I have a question regarding my ´67 Coronet 500. I am trying to save money to buy the ´67 taillight bezel panel Layson´s is selling for about $1100+. Layson´s web says that their bezel is for R/T´s. I am wondering if it will fit the 500 types too. My speculation is if the R/T emblem on the panel has different shape /dimensions than the 500 emblem. And since there is no R/T ´67 Coronet in my country I can not verify that. With $1100 bucks on the line, I want to be sure. And yes, Layson´s has not replied to a question I sent about this issue many moons ago.

    Thanks for replying

The 67 Coronet 500 and the R/T use the same tail panel and taillights. The only difference is the emblem. Take the 500 emblem off and put the R/T emblem on.

Jerry, I won´t put an R/T emblem on my 500. My question is still: Do they have different outer shapes /dimensions?

My question to you is are you going to purchase another tail panel or where does the $1100 come in?

The tail panel is the same and the tail light bezels are the same. The R/T emblem goes out over the shape of tail panel is different than the 500.

I am referring to this part and description on Laysons website: "
"396-39813 Trunk Finish Panel - Coronet R/T version (shipped oversized). IT does come with the R/T badge on panel !!
    67 Coronet . $1,225.00"

Now I have conflicting replies to my question. Perhaps I should reword it: "Will the R/T and 500 emblems interchange on these bezels? and Do the bezels look exactly the same around where the emblems are. Picture shows the 500 emblem on my Coronet (I can not find a close up photo of a 67 R/T emblem).

The only thing that’s different is the emblem and yes they will interchange.

Thanks for posting this photo 69L48Z27. Based on this good photo it seems to me that the R/T taillight bezel is a little bit "irregular" around the emblem compared with the 500 bezel which is rectangular around the emblem.

They are the same. Size I mean. So you are going to buy the R/T panel from Layson's and slap your 500 emblem into it? Yes, it will bolt right on.

No it is not. The edges/ends of the R and the T hang out a bit over the edges but the base IS rectangular.

I am thinking about buying it. When I look at the photo above (the black car) it seems that the left-most part of the "R", the upper- and lowermost part of the slash as well as the lowest point of the vertical T protrude into the panel. This could be an illusion. Have you physically inspected if this is not the case? I am not going to risk $1225 until I have been convinced.

Lol. yes, those bits that protrude do so over/above the surface of the panel chrome. Keep in mind that the base for each emblem is the same height as the surrounding panel and the "500" or the "R/T" bits sit atop that surface. Don't worry, buy the part. It's all good.

Look at the ad for the part. If there are pictures of the panel without the R/T installed you will notice that there are no corresponding indentations along the edges of the panel opening for any overlapping bits. Shows you that the R/T sits above it.

Your 500 emblem will attach to the panel when you remove the R/T emblem. Even though the R/T emblem looks like it is bigger the base of it actually sits in the same cutout that your 500 emblem is in now.
