I went to the grocery store last night to buy some cheap after-Halloween candy. I told the guy rearranging the aisle that I didn't like chocolate. He picked out some licorice. I got home and it was chocolate licorice. Yuk, yuk, yuk. I told my daughter the vet nurse I would throw it out for the raccoons, they'll eat anything. She said it contains xylitol and is extremely poisonous to animals. Who knew. I thought I should pass it on. I've heard about chocolate before but WTF.

Looked it up and it’s an artificial sweetener, I believe for the most part all artificial sweeteners are bad for our pets and so probably wildlife too.
Obviously not great for us either, but I think it can make them sick or croak in less time than a human.

Xylitol is great for your teeth, sinuses and throat. I use the sinus spray whenever I feel a tickle in my nose or throat. I chew gum with xylitol in it every day for my teeth since I stay away from fluoride. But as stated above, it kills small animals in small doses.

Thanks, interesting. I remember him saying his father was hospitalized and initially they couldn't determine the cause. When they discovered he'd been on a licorice eating binge. The oddity of it is why I remember that.

If your guts get a little backed up (constipation), black licorice will clear that right up!

I saw one of those the other day, it crossed by me and ran up a hill into some bushes, I wasn't sure if it was gonna try to ambush me or something so I turned off my earbuds for a little while as I walked away.
