Door Hinge Rebuild

Finished repairing the sloppy door hinges on my ‘67 Belvedere. I know there are lots of convos about this but most mention using pressed in brass bushings and/or oversized pins.
I realized the “inner” piece was the only one with any slop in it so I took the approach of welding a sleeve in to the inner piece. As far as I can tell, there is no issues here and it should put the load on the entire length of the ID of the tube, rather than just the formed factory hinge material.

There’s likely someone who will tell me I’ve ruined them and then disclose how they do them in such a greater fashion but…‍

Tubing machined to length, reamed to give .001–.002” clearance. Aligned using the factory pin then welded into place. There is certainly no more slop in them. I’ll get them installed and see how they work.

You could drill that for a grease fitting and it’ll outlast all humanity.

Thanks! I think I'll do mine like that. Did the tubing close up any when you T.I.G. welded it in?
That's the problem with the stock hinges, they have so little area to distribute the load of that
big door.
