Door latch gear fix?

The door latch gear on the driver side of my 66 Plymouth Belvedere at time spins free which causes the door not to shut. You can spin it at times and it will "tighten up" like it should and the door will shut correctly.
Is there a fix for this? If not, is it possible to buy only the driver side latch? There are sets of latches that I saw online but fairly expensive.
Thanks

Lubricate the inside of the latching mechanism. Old grease is probably gummy.

I figured out the latch wheel stays in open mode (spins freely) when using the outside door handle
Any suggestions?

See post #2.
And to add to it.. take the door panel off and lubricate all moving parts associated to the latch. Ie; the latch. The inner handle. The outer handle. The pivots.
