Born in LA in 1934, Hickman started his screen career as a child actor in the '40s. He's best remembered for two TV roles he took on in the late '50s.

Hickman played the teen "Chuck" on The Bob Cummings Show from 1955 to 1959. He then starred in the title role of sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis from 1959 to 1963.

The CBS series also featured the talents of a young Bob Denver and Warren Beatty. These early roles made Hickman a bit of a heartthrob actor back in the day.

After his younger acting days, Hickman's star power declined some, but he continued to guest star on TV and had a role in the Western film Cat Ballou. He later worked as a director, producer, and TV exec.
