This one didn't blow because he shut off the air in the turbo inlet.

Detroit two strokes were the worst about the runaway issues, the fuel rack falls open and hangs up and if your not able to close the rack you are in trouble. I’ve heard of other diesels doing it after a lay over and other repairs. What’s crazy is they can run in reverse rotation and run off the crankcase oil. Detroit’s were a simple engine but the nick name screaming Detroit is due to the fact they make power on the far side of the tach...I personally haven’t seen it happen but it could be dangerous and expensive.

If you've never seen a Detroit diesel runaway you just haven't lived. Its some thing you will never forget.

The guy in the driver's seat got out ok, but the guy in the passenger's seat looked pretty shaken up.

I think they found the limit/breaking point
