E body Accelerator pedal cable retainer plug

In the accelerator pedal rod where the cable end goes there are two holes; a small hole at the top where the cable end rests and a larger one below that with a slot between the two.



Is there supposed to be something in the hole below the accelerator cable to keep it from popping out of the top hole? It seems like I saw a plastic button or pin in there.
