Planning for a new Crane mechanical flat tappet camshaft & looking at EDM hole tappets. What brand(s) is best & is the Comp Cam EDM tappet any good & Compatible with the Crane cast iron stick ? Are the Trend non-coated tool steel tappets superior ? Any help much appreciated...tom

I don't think I have seen any Crane edm lifters for mopar before? Pretty much any flat tappet will work with a flat tappet. We aren't big comp cam fans. We have a set of Howard's with edm oiling, they probably would be my preference. We have run crower before too.

Yep...no Crane EDM's that's why mentioned the other brands for consideration & does the concept actually real world work better ? Also asking who has the superior flat tappet lifter metallurgy cast cam compatible. Considering every possibility to avoid a mechanical flat tappet failure.

I have used Johnsons on 2 different solids. ZERO troubles.

I have Trend tool steel non-coated non EDM lifters that Ray Barton put in my engine. He said they’re way better than normal. But the price is much higher. He doesn’t have any issues with break-in eating cams.

It just makes sense to give the cam more oil to help in make it last. Yes you can do it without but most would say it helps. There are usually only a couple lifter companies that make the lifters where there are a bunch of companies that grind cams. I have heard that Johnson makes lifters for Howard's but I can't verify. We typically do NOT use comp cams stuff but others do. The trends we've never run, I guess for me if I am spending a bunch of money on a flat tappet lifter we probably would step up to a roller. But rollers are not always the answer for durability either.

none of the grinders make their own lifters
most aew johnson or the other johnson
that said isky and crower cay the top o the line (as do somw custom shops)
bvvc getting anyting from the other big grinders
ask for country of origin docs

The Trend non-coated available in both std & EDM Does look like the superior flat tappet mechanical lifter..Anybody know if they (Trend) use the same oem lifter pushrod seat height ?
