As the title says, I want to use an electronic voltage regulator on my pre 1970 alternator. (new). I am using this alternator for sake of appearance. All the conversions I have found , show to use the newer squareback alternator, which I don't want to do. I don't care if it is aftermarket as the regulator will be hidden. Also ampereage output is not important. Any information for me will be appreciated............Thanks.................................MO

I've had good luck with the wells/duralast VR706 voltage regulator. That's what I'm running on my '69 Sport Satellite with single field alternator. You can get them at Autozone, I believe rockauto has them as well.

I'm not sure what you're asking for...info on how to wire it or where to buy the old regulator?
I have done the research on converting pre 1970 alternator and mechanical regulator to the newer electronic regulator. They all say to use a squareback later alternator and elec reg. and show how to wire it.
I don't want to do that , as per my post. I guess if it can be done, I would then need to know how to wire it. Thanks.................................MO

Thank you and Badmopar 67---That is exactly what I was looking for. I will see if my local parts store can get that for me.........................................MO

Thanks to all who responded. You gave me enough info to do further research. Here is what I found---single field alternators were pre 1970 and stock voltage regulator was a points style. After 1970 Ma Mopar went to a two field alternator and a electronic voltage regulator which was a big improvement in consistant voltage.
You can get electronic voltage regulators to work with the early single field alternators. --Wells vr 706 ( Duralast from Auto Zone)----Standard Blue Streak vr 128 -- Echlin vr1001 (NAPA). Be careful as a lot of parts stores will try to cross you over to a points style regulator.. Also there are electronic voltage regulators that have the appearance of the early points V.R. I didn't care about that.....................................MO

Here is the one I run on my '66. Been running this style for 20+ years with no problems.

Gpuller, yes, that is the constant output MP regulator that another member here was using and did not know it was constant output. Click on the "Overview" button on Jeg's web page and it describes the regulator. I just wanted to warn him that it is "possible" to overcharge a battery with this regulator depending on how much/how long the car is driven. It does not taper off the charge rate as a normal regulator does. But you probably already knew that.

Mopar Performance Voltage Regulator

For race applications only, install this constant output voltage regulator to ensure that ignition and electrical systems can provide maximum performance. Voltage is held steady at 13.5 volts compared to production regulators which fluctuate between 11.5 to 13.5 volts
.

Yep fully aware of the constant output. Been in the car 20+ years with no problems. It's the regulator Mopar Performance instructions says to run in pre '68 cars when changing to electronic ignition. So that's what I ran.
