I'm keeping my eye out for a good deal on an enclosed trailer to transport my 73 Charger to the racetrack. This will see regular use during the racing season, so I want to make sure I get one that's easy to load and unload.
As you can see in the pic below, my current trailer is a little on the small size.
A 73 Charger is long and fat, so can anybody tell me what size works well?
Thanks.

The physical size is important but more importantly what are you pulling with is what will help make a decision. 1/2 ton I’d use an aluminum trailer 3/4 and up steel or aluminum .. Make sure you get brakes on both axles, torsion axles are my favorite as the sit lower, don’t forget a good hitch set up with sway control and torsion bars. The ideal length to me is 20-24 deck length.. I’m a feather lite fan but they are pricey. Make sure it has a stout tongue and no scotch lock wiring, some use nice harnesses some don’t. Also make sure the tie down rings are not just tied to the sheet metal floor!
Nice car...!

Thanks F4R/T.
Believe it or not, that's a 1 ton van in the photo. Rides really well, but I don't think it has enough power for an enclosed trailer so I'm looking to upgrade that as well.

Ideally I'd like to tow with a small camper. Be nice to find a whole rig for sale.

I need a little time to pull the funds together, so just trying to gather info now.

Why is the driver side door so uncommon? Seems like a no brainer for a car hauler.

Cost I suspect. Wouldn't have one without it (at my age).
Not a fan of crawling out of the window or sliding out the door gap at my size !

Gotta have the kissing booth window....

24' with spread axle, you won't even know it's behind you. No "bucking" in the cab...

I have a 28' trailer. The 71 Charger fits fine with plenty of room. Trailer had cabinets/workbench up front, and likely 4 ft or more from front of cat to cabinets.
I think around 2 ft behind the car. The extra space makes it easy to tie down the car to the trailer.
The side escape door allows me to drive the car in and open the car door to get out.
Without the escape door, I think I would have to wench the car in unless you are really skinny and climb out the cars window.

24 ft ideal ....with escape door on driver side .... aluminum is nice but very expensive....will be hard to find used with escape door .....good luck

I bought a used trailer. I have to winch my race car in and out. Harbor Freight winch with a remote, works great.

Hey dads bee tell us about the spread axle set up, I’ve never pulled one and yes the bucking gets real old.. I recall going thru Oklahoma in my ram pulling a 24’ empty and it stank! Loaded it was great. What brand of axles do the use ? Can you get those as torsion set up? Thanks !

Not sure what to tell you, they are torsion axles. 6000 lb ones. Trailer manual is out in it, in the tool box, if you want some more info I can get it tomorrow. Trailer is an Atlas..

I have a 28' enclosed for pulling my cars. It fits E's, B's and even C Bodies. I can also fit a 6' bench, overhead cabinets, tool box, generator, air compressor and golf cart with the cars included.

Winch the car in, easier, safer and no door needed.

I have always wondered. How do you strap them down? You would not just trust the winch strap eh?
I guess this is a question for everybody. Is there enough room to walk to the front for the hook up?
Just wondering.

Winches can have the pawl let go. A four corner tire down is the only way. I like the spread axle idea. I wonder if it chews tires as bad on turns?

Agreed. My neighbor has a spread axle. Yes it does drag the rear axle a bit more.
Is it any worse than a standard spread ? Doubt it, they drag in a tight turn too.

Get something bigger than you think you need
as long as you have the proper tow rig to tow it
they fill up fast
that's a big long wide car
trailer brakes is a must
dual axles is a great idea too
that car will fill up a 20ft trailer,
a 24 ft would be better, a 28 ft if you have the budget
& especially the actual towing capability

I've had a few Aluminum trailers (Featherlite aren't cheap)
but it's nice to have less weight
tag & fifth wheel or gooseneck too
Gooseneck & Fifth wheels tow really nice
weight right over the axle,
usually storage or sleeping space above the hitch

FRP Fiberglass reinforced plywood isn't too bad, but heavier
lighter than all steel
