Hey guys, I have a question for those of you that have done custom engine paint. I want to mix a custom color for the block and heads instead of using an out of the can paint. What do I need to use/brand/style etc. to make sure it will stick and not burn off?

I am either going to put 88 blue on the block or a dark grey metallic contrast to make it pop in the engine bay. never been a fan of the plain orange look.

Make sure the paint is able to stand up to the heat changes, flexibility for expansion & contraction, you can get many different types of paint custom mixed, that will be good for the project... I used Ditzler Lacquer for many years with out any big peeling or flaking issues, just really need to prep really well, use a sealer 1st & get good paint adhesion...

nobody else has input here? Budnicks had a good response but I figured somebody else had a paint of choice as well.

Heat's your big enemy here, once it's applied. Prep, clean, prep, make sure you have a clean surface before you even begin to think of it. Budnicks put you on the right course

Last car I did without rattle cans was a '68 Camaro, painted the engine that ford red that looks purple, added Lavender mica to the clear coat. It held up for a couple years as I drove it, just a little discoloring on the heads near the exhaust ports

First as others have said prep and have it really clean then use epoxy primer dont over do it with the primer though just 2 med wet coats would be fine just so its covered then just spray your favorite color it can be base coat clear coat or you can just use a single stage paint it will stay looking nice for a long time.
