Does anyone know of a gas station in the Chicago area that sells gas without ethanol? Or is there an additive that can be used with the Premium Gas that contains ethanol. Let me know your thoughts or experiences with using ethanol gas in older cars. Thanks

Closest one to my house is a Citgo.

We got a new Wawa a few miles further that has it and it's cheaper.

You're not gonna find any in Chicago, or Cook county for that matter. Might find some around Rockford/Belvedere as I recall. You basically will have to get out beyond the collar counties.

your closest shot if you are in the city proper may be Wisconsin or Indiana.

THe only ethanol free around here is 89 octane. If my car is going to sit awhile I use the Joe Gibbs additive. For over the winter I will fill the tank with ethanol free 89 and a few gallons of ethanol free 110 octane.

Yep, no ethanol-free gas anywhere near Chicago. ALL grades now contain ethanol.....87, 89 & 93 all have it. In my opinion (chemist at automotive chemical company that manufactures fuel additives), ethanol doesn't hurt anything. Now, I've heard that METHANOL can be corrosive to some components of a fuel system, but not ethanol. Newer gas doesn't hurt the older engines as long as you have hardened exhaust valve seats ('71 & up cylinder heads - 906's aren't hardened). Lead used to protect the softer metal valve seats in the old days.

For the second half of your question..... all (or most) fuel additives can be used in premium gas that contains ethanol. What type of "additive" do you want to add to your fuel & what do you hope to accomplish by adding that additive?

The only thing ethanol hurts is fuel mileage. That said, I wouldn't use it if I had a choice.

...and rubber.

Citgo has 89 Wawa is 90.

The engine in my 1969 Roadrunner is a 383, and is the number matching original, 60K miles on it. If I run the ethanol gas what kind of problems would I see? There's no racing only cruising.

Ethanol boils at a lower temperature. 173 ish. Can make for hellish hot restarts. Nothing else available around here.

any marina or small airport will have it. not a drive up mater but I have purchased aviation fuel with my red jugs.

Did you redo the heads valve guides for the different gas?
