Does any company see the factory style copper exhsust manifold nuts for the fine thread studs on big block engines.. Were the nuts offered by the factory some sort of lock nut? Thanks

I have never seen copper exhaust nuts from the factory. They would be to soft for any kind of torque load and the rate of expansion of copper is differtent than steel or cast what would be the advantage? There also is nothing special about the fine threads on exhaust manifold studs or the nut any parts store should have them.

My bad i thought the ones on my car were copper. Kinda looked like it. Just looking for something that wont vibrate loose and looks factory. Thanks

Copper lock nut are used on early VW air cooled exhaust ports. They are softer than the steel studs and wont strip threads. They also dont rust onto the stud. the nut has a slight oval shape that tightens onto the stud and wont let go. They are metric ......

If it helps anyone at all, I have used stainless steel nuts on my exhaust studs in the past. They do not corrode, and I have not damaged the stud threads to date. Original steel nuts are a pain as the freeze onto the studs in time. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks guys. I will go with the stainless ones. Just wanted something that wouldnt come loose

Use brass or stainless and double them.
Jam nuts?
I'd rather do that than a self locking type.

Forgot to mention I used Stainless spring washers also - never undo with vibration. :headbang:

I've used copper plated steel nuts. The coating helps hold down rust. But it would be a pain finding a plating shop, to flash a few nuts. Also used silver plated exhaust nuts...but that's AC radial stuff.
