Picture please. No documentation on this car. Folklore is that a member of the Military ordered the Coronet while on leave in Germany. However, did not return from Viet Nam. Wish I knew more or had confirmation. This adds to the time-machine and emotional part of the ownership for me. 28 years.

My Roadrunner was ordered by a Marine in Vietnam. It was ordered from the Chrysler Overseas Sales Office at DaNang Air Base and delivered to the Marine at a Plymouth dealership in Buffalo NY. I think I still have all the paperwork. I also bought a car while on deployment to NAS Sigonella, Sicily and I took delivery of that car at Ray Mixon Chrysler Plymouth in Jacksonville.

To the best of my knowledge, no automobile company who sells vehicles to overseas military personnel sell them as export cars. Every car I've seen sold is sold at the overseas sales office but must be picked up by the service member at a CONUS dealership. I've never seen a vehicle delivered overseas, and I suspect the reason for that is shipping costs and import fees. If a service member picks the car up in CONUS, they can usually have it shipped at government expense and not have to pay any import fees. If the car was shipped by the maker then the service member would have to pay for the shipping plus all import fees, taxes, duties, etc.

This is a picture of my friends 74 Charger SE survivor car. It was exported to New Zealand for the US Embassy to use back in the day. This is the original export sticker. Sorry about the picture quality, but you get the idea.

I don't believe any were shipped to anyone on a base. This was one of the first things the guys in the sales offices told us. You bought the car there, and picked it up in the US.

Roger, your tag looks like it could be from a S. American export car. the "marca reg" means registered trademark in espanol.

could have been from one of these...

Looks like the same as my Plymouth tag. Does this mean that parts of Southern California were actually Mexican territory back in the 1960's ??? :toothy9:

My lasting memories of driving through San Bernardino was of two Police officers holding shotguns faced at about six Mexican looking men who were lying face down in the gutter on the side of a main road. Looked like a fairly routine traffic stop to me.

It would APPEAR to still be Mexican Territory. Coronet purchased in Pennsylvania in 1988.

I dunno D, looks like yours says "marca reg" too. Could be the same deal.
