After replacing the 318 with the 340 (and retaining the 904) in the '72 Satellite Sebring Plus, I purchased carb throttle bracket/linkage for the '72 340 in a BBody. Would work just find (photo #1) However, the one piece kick down 904 transmission rod is now about 2 1/2 inches too far away (about 2 inches horizontally and about another 1/2 inch because it is also a little higher so I had to measure on a diagonal) (photo #2).

I'm not sure if it makes a difference which end to lengthen, either the kick down rod itself or the mini-bracket with the small bolt it attaches to). Personally, I would rather not fool around with the kick down rod which already is slotted and connected to the transmission under the vehicle. In other words, my first try most likely will be to extend the little swivel thing with the bolt either 2 1/2 inches or maybe even 3 inches.

What I would do is make slotted extension to the stock rod first. Get some flat stock, slot one end, make a hole in the other end and bolt it together. Then you will see what length is ideal. You will know exactly how much rod to add. I take it you can weld right?

This what I have. The throttle cable is not stock but I used all factory kickdown linkage. As you can see I used hardware store fine thread internal thread and a cut off thread male to gain the extension. Revamped the return spring. Has been 5 years driving like that. You can cut, sleeve, thread your one piece rod to gain what you need.

Do you think this might help??
I think I already have exactly what is needed. Since I had both two barrel and four barrel factory brackets, I can just take the two-barrel bracket that attached to the carb stud, tilt it 90 degrees so it's flat and then cut it and attach it in place somehow or other (see photo).

This is a 318 to 5.9 magnum. A 1/4" brass tube threaded to match the factory rod. Then a piece of threaded rod inserted in the front of the tube to connect it to the front slotted portion.
