Frustration

Last Saturday, my 17-year old son raced my Road Runner, street car at Cecil. It was his second time competing in an actual race. We headed to Cecil Co and he double entered. He ran 11.50 Index as well as Pro Dial. Both classes ran a .500 Pro Tree, which he had never run before. We had a heck of a time slowing the car to run 11.50 in the mine-shaft conditions. Ultimately, he had to drive the finish line since we were nowhere near the 11.50 dial for both classes. We added 120 lbs of ballast, shifted from 1st-3rd gear at 5500 RPM, blipped the throttle at 1000 feet, then got out of it at the first MPH cone...not a recipe for success. He struggled at first with the pro tree. Then with some help from our good buddy Ray, he started killing it. He lost first round of 11.50 Index, but went four rounds in Pro Dial. He would likely have made it to the semis if our Yukon Axle hadn't broken on the fourth pass. In that fourth round, Tommy cut a better light by a tenth and a half. We eventually ended up on the track wrecker after breaking. We were so happy with the day that we didn't even care about the breakage. Now I guess I need to put a roll bar and seat belts in it for the new racer. The torch has been passed. The photo of Tommy standing alongside the car is of the third round. He would have been given a bye run if there was one with his .008 RT. He also had the best light of the third round (.014), but no bye run was available. Proud Pappa! ; )
