Thanks for viewing. i am stumped again. I have a 1969 RR iam restoring. it has the orginial 727 trans. The crank shaft is set up for a six (6) bolt. I purchased a Hughes Torque Converter (2000 stall) from summit (part no. HUP 24-20). I also purchased a flex plate. The problem I have is this: the bolt holes on the flex plate don t line up with the bolt holes on the torque converter. The distance between the center of the bolt holes on the torque converter is 10 inches. the distance between the center of the opening for the holes on the flex plate is 11 inches. I dont think I ordered a 10 inch converter from summit but that does not mean they didnt send me one?!? IDK. My question is do I need to purchase a different flex plate? I note that summit lists a Chrysler flex plate that has dual bolt pattens, 10 inch and 11 1/8 inch (Part no. BMM10230). Can anyone give me advice on this issue. "Where did I make the wrong turn" Ah!!!! I will call summit to see what they know about the converter they sent me.

Hi Wild Bill!
I just ordered 2 of those B&M flex plates from Summit because I heard they will NOT be making it anymore.
It is the "Balanced" Flex Plate correct?
Usually the flex Plate will only fit "one-way"
Have you tried rotating the Flex Plate from hole to hole to see if it lines up?
Interesting.

super bee ski. thanks for responding. Just got off phone with summit tech. He tried not to say too much, but did say my fix was to order the dual bolt pattern flex plate: (Summit No. BMM 10230). My engine has 6 bolt crank. Said they have these in stock. Balanced IDK? ad does not say anything about balance. I have an internally balanced engine now. So I will call summit to see if this (BMM 10230) will work with an internally balanced engine? IDK? Yes I believe flex plate only fits one way. Unfortunately, IDK which way that is. That was going to be one of my later questions :icon_winkle:. Yes I tried rotating flex plate. Notta. no go on that. now back to summit. I will post response i get

super bee ski. Update from Summit. their rep said flex plate BMM10230 will work with internally balanced engines. He did did'nt say whether the flex plate itself was balanced. Again, said these were in stock. Said he has not heard that these will be discontinued. I would recommend that you ck to see if this plate will work on your 440 given your question as to whether the plate itself was "balanced". do you know which way the flex plate faces?

Cool wild bill,
Essentially, all CAST crankshaft engines are "externally-balanced" by either having weights on the Torque converter OR a "round style flex plate with a "notch" in it.
On the other hand Forged crankshafts are Internally balanced. They use a Flex Plate that is almost in the shape of an X

Good luck, keep us posted!

super bee ski, i believe that I have a forged crank as it is originally an road runner engine. IDK. I called hughes and they said that the torque converter i bought (HUP 24-20) will work with internally balanced engine. Was told by Summit that flex plate (BMM 10230) will also work with an internally balanced engine. Generally I have found that torque converters and flex plates with NO balance weights are used on internally balanced engines. IDK? I believe that this is the road iam on now as the HUP 24-20 converter has no weights on it. I will purchase the summit flex plate and see if things line up (bolt wise). Balance questions seemed to be answered for me. thanks super bee ski! A long time ago, my cousin (now deceased) had a 1970 super bee, purple with white interior, and I believe conv top. KOOL CAR!
