Former 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus owner with a question.

I used to have a 72 Sebring Plus with a 340 CID auto. It had buckets and a console with a weird shifter. You drop it in low and walk on it the shifter would click up to drive by itself. It looked like an upside down U. Also the speedo and tach were same size, round with 140 MPH speedometer with certified wrote on bottom. Has anyone ran across this setup??

Don't know about the shifter other than it would have been an aftermarket and not factory.
The gauges sound like factory Rallye and should have been a 150 speedo. The certified meant that they were for a cop car.

Yep, a certified speedometers are from police cars.

Rallye dash with 150 MPH speedo was standard in '72 SSP.

I'm surprised no one has commented on the 340........

i thought the 400 was standard in the 72 SSP, thats what mine has in it

Actually the /6 was standard for all but the RR and GTX.
A 340 SSP would be rare if it was even available in a SSP. Would like to see the vin.

318 was standard in the SSP. 340 was RR only

My Dad was a mechanic and he said it was a 340 CID. I know it had a huge 4 BBL carburetor and the engine was blue. I seem to remember he had to change the spark plug wires a few times because the engine was burning them. Dad said it was a 340 design error. He finally made something to protect them out of a piece of metal. The old guy I bought it from said he originally was going to get a Roadrunner but insurance was cheaper on the Satellite. He also said he ordered the car the way it was. As for the shifter it was the coolest thing I ever saw. I've only ever seem similar on GMs'. Thanks for the info guys!! Now I'm sorry I sold the damn thing for $500. and a minibike.
