I have a '70 body with a four-speed manual transmission. All four-speed manual cars have that reverse light at the lower edge of the dash. There's a wire that runs from the transmission to the dash light.

Can anyone please tell me what route that wire takes from the transmission up to the firewall? Can anyone please tell me what clips/clamps hold the wire in place to the side of the transmission? Brewer's Performance lists some clips, which of these do I need and where do they go? http://www.brewersperformance.com/search.asp?nobox=&scat=&stext=clip&stype=any&sprice=&pg=4 I'm looking at clips SSC and SSC-B down near the bottom of the page.

The scc clips go on the face plate. Left side corner and the next bolt down at 3:00. The other clip goes on the bell housing at 11:00.

Thank you, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'face plate'; I know where 11:00 on the bell housing is.

I'll go ahead and order these clips from Brewer.

My bad, the cover plate on the side that all your shift linkage connects too.
The upper left bolt in the corner and the one directly below it.

The bell housing clip does not go on the 11 clock position when facing the rear of the motor it goes in the 2 oclock position.

Thank you, after I replied, I kinda figured you meant the side plate.

Thank you both to TexasBee and MoparNation.

Justin, How positive are you about the clip on the bell-housing? I had called Brewers and talked to Wayne and I swear he said 11:00(over a year ago). I called and double checked and this time I got Dan. He says 2:00. Why would the wire harness ride up the left side and then switch to the right side on the bell housing and then have to turn back over to the left side to make a connection in the bulk head?

100% positive...They also state their adjuster rod is correct....just saying...

I can provide multiple pics if needed of restored OE gold cars and survivors....Where people make the mistake is the routing of the wire. Most initially think it connects at the wiper of course then dives down where the 11 oclock position is...Not the case...the wire runs over to the passenger side the farthest firewall wing clamp the down through the bellhousing clamp at 2 oclock cross the trans top to the two cover clips. When done that way their is very little play in the wire...

Pic below is from a 100%OE A12....Well documented and well known...My other pics are at home...

Brewers DOES NOT restore OE cars.....But DAN knows his stuff more than Wayne

This motor in this pic was restored by Frank Badalson for a 69 six pack

Nice joke about the adjuster rod...

Yeah, another item I get to do twice. My car is not near as historically accurate as yours but it sure would be nice to have all items in the correct position.
I'm not sure I can move it.

That is a tight area to gain access without banging something...I wouldn't even sweat it and who would ever notice....How many people would even know where it should be?..

You could probably remove the trans mount bushing bolts and jack the tail shaft up and it might give you better clearance..if you have he fan installed remove it....

If you want a pic as to how I routed the wire let me know....

Thank you, everyone, I've ordered the clips from Brewer. Yes, it's gonna be hard to get that bolt out of the bell housing, kinda hard to reach it.

OK, got the clips from Brewer, installed them as MoparNation suggested, wire now runs up the back (rear) side of the faceplate (sideplate), across the top of the transmission to the clip on the bellhousing, then on the three hangers across the firewall to the bulkhead connector.

Wire looks good, but there is still some slack in my wire, if I cut six inches out it would fit a lot more snugly.

Should there be that much slack in the wire?
