four speed or automatic

Sooooo...........If you are a woman, how do you multi task while driving a manual trans? Drinking coffee, eating breakfast and putting on makeup while driving? Just wondering.

She'd drive circles around you.

Lets all just beat that dead horse some more...LOL... Last car I went from a 727 auto to a manual trans, I went with a 5 speed, I used an 18 spline Doug Nash 4+1 it fit great, found it on www.Racingjunk.com complete with everything I needed for les than $2k, there's also Richmond 5 speed is another great alternative too, not really cheap, but you won't have to wait years to get one, the peddles & bell housing are the easy parts to find, flywheel too, BUT if you plan on going to the track by SFI rated stuff, make sure the trans fits in the tunnel, most of the newer 5 -6 speeds won't {without serious modifications, not that hard thou}, then there's the hump in the tunnel if you go with a stock type 23 or 18 spline 833 trans & linkages, cross-member, various clutch pieces/linkages, driveshaft yokes & drive shaft... I actually love manual trans cars, for street cars only, beyond that it's not very cost effective to run a clutch combo & be at all consistent or last any period of time, with out breaking the bank, if you plan on abusing it allot... good luck what ever you choose... Passon Perf., Brewers Perf., American Powertrain, Richmond 5speed Jegs or Summit Racing for about $2400 for just the rans & it's not an O/D just a 5 speed you can run like 3.23:1 rear gear & have a launch like a 4.56:1 gear, Doug Nash 4+1, Keisler is now gone, Liberty, www.Hurst-Drivelines.com & Legend Gear also all manual trans sources... Google any of them you will get a ton of links & threads/info... none are cheap, depends on your budget...

Everyone needs to chill. I don't stake my manhood on whether I drive a manual or auto and neither should you.

I like the manual but if you have an auto just leave it auto and get another car with a manual. definatley go with a 440

If you can afford another car...........lots cheaper to convert that's for sure.

People let's not take this personally...

I would keep what is there. My daily driver is a 6spd manual with a feather light clutch. I'm not sure I'd enjoy driving my roadrunner if it had a heavy clutch,, which is why I opted for auto.

I think I see Dennis's point in heavy city traffic a manual can be a bear, esp with a stiff clutch and definitely if the steering is manual but I'm not in LA or Chicago or New York and don't drive in STL often with a manual trans vehicle so I think that has a big factor. Out in the sticks here in the Metro STL area, which has corn or bean fields and normal highway and interstate traffic it's fun to me.

I think this is the true issue here. For me, my manual valve body gives me all the road feel of a 4speed, and in traffic I think it's the best of both worlds. Now I would've bought either manual or auto, but my car happened to be auto.

The real benefit of a 4 speed is in making huge cams livable because you can launch at 4500 or you can feather it out at 1800. No can do with a converter.
